Chapter 84 

The prototype was a small black substance, about the size of a bean. Valerie wasn’t able to identify its other contents with her eyes alone. She would have to conduct in–depth research into it once she was back at the lab. 

An uninvited guest opened the door just then. It was Sonia. 

“Let’s talk, Valerie.” 

Valerie very swiftly tucked the prototype into her pen before shooting Sonia a questioning gaze. “What’s there to talk about between us?” 

Sonia closed the door behind her and said, “Let’s talk about Mr. White, then. What is your relationship with him right now?” 

Valerie smiled. “Why don’t you ask him that question instead? Oh, you can’t? Or are you just 

too scared to?” 

Sonia wasn’t going to bother hiding her true nature in front of Valerie. “Everyone in the social 

elite circle knows that I like Mr. White.” 

“So?” Valerie bit back. 

“So, you’ll stay away from him if you know what’s good for you! Don’t think you can flirt and seduce any man you like just because you have the looks and body for it.” 

“Are you sure you’re making sense right now?” Valerie asked suddenly. 

“What do you mean?” 

Valerie crossed her legs while sipping her tea. “Did you ever wonder if you’re the reason you made such a fool of yourself in public?” 

She even tapped her temple, as if to remind Sonia that something might be wrong with her 

head. 

Sonia’s face turned red with anger and embarrassment as she recalled what had transpired in the auction hall. “Weren’t you the one who made me embarrass myself throughout the entire day?” 

She suddenly recalled the warning Valerie had given her while the latter was leaving Lucius‘ room. Sonia had thought that Valerie was just putting up a tough act at the time. Who knew tragedy after tragedy would befall Sonia right after? 

Valerie chuckled. “You have such intricate schemes, Ms. Woodward. But did you not anticipate that your schemes against me would backfire? You’ve already embarrassed yourself so greatly,

so do you really think you’re still fit to be Mrs. White?” 

Sonia grew aggravated yet again. “Even if I can’t, what makes you think you can?” 

That question made Valerie speechless. She was, in fact and in law, Mrs. White. She couldn’t discard that title, even if she wanted to. 

Sonia continued snapping, “You’re just a poor country bum who has no idea just how powerful the White family is here in Windmere. Do you really think you can have a good life here amongst the social elite based on your beauty alone? I suggest you think twice. 

“Neither the Foster family nor White family will ever accept you. Do you want to know why?” 

Since no one else was here, Sonia didn’t worry about anyone else seeing how envious she was. 

“I’ll be direct with you, then–regardless of how pretty or perfect your body is, you’ll always be nothing more than a cheap plaything for those rich heirs if you don’t come from a powerful background. They only lust for your body, nothing more. Marrying rich is nothing but a daydream for the likes of you.” 

This was also the reason Sonia could so freely insult Valerie out in public. 

Even though Valerie was Sonia’s elder sister, the Woodward family would never accept Valerie. Without their support, Valerie was nothing in Windmere–a place where power and wealth ruled the elite. 

Surprisingly, Valerie giggled. “You should look at yourself in the mirror, Sonia. What 

happened to your face to make it so utterly twisted? They always say that jealousy makes you ugly. I guess that’s not so far from the truth in your case.” 

As Sonia watched Valerie mock her, she felt a metallic taste rise from her throat. The next second, under Valerie’s gaze, she coughed out a mouthful of blood. 

“W–What’s happening to me? Why am I coughing up blood? What did you do to me, Valerie?” Sonia asked, shocked and frightened.
