Kenneth shoved Shannon off him with disgust–she was the root of today’s disaster. 

His loathing for her had reached its peak. 

Taking in the handprint marks on her face, he nodded grimly. 

“Serves you right for running to my mother. You make me sick.” 

Shannon’s wounded expression froze. She stared at him in disbelief. 

Tears welled up in her eyes. 

She thought, “How could the man who once adored me turn on me like this?” 

It had to be that bitch Regina’s doing–that mediocre nobody who didn’t even compare to her! 

Seething with resentment, Shannon shrieked, “Who did I do this for? I was thinking of you! I know how badly you wanted to be a father, and you-” 

Before she could finish, Kenneth cut her off coldly. 

“Shut up!” 

He looked at her with a hard, cold gaze and shook his head slowly. 

“Even now, you’re still lying. You only ever do things for yourself. It was like that three years ago, and it’s the same now. I can’t believe I ever got involved with someone like you. I regret every second.” 

Without another glance at Shannon’s pale and shaken face, Kenneth turned and strode away. 

His mind was a mess. On one side was his wife, and on the other was his mother. He didn’t want to lose either of 

them. 

When he finally returned home, exhausted, he found the house in complete darkness. 

His heart skipped a beat. He dashed from room to room, searching frantically. 

But no matter how many rooms he searched, the one person he longed to see was nowhere to be found. 

Plunged into despair, he dialed her number with trembling hands. 

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable…” 

Kenneth refused to give up. He called again. And again. Ten times in total–no answer. 

Frustrated, he ran a hand through his hair and stood up abruptly. That’s when his eyes landed on something sitting on

the table. It was a divorce agreement. 

Then, in a sudden burst of rage, he hurled his phone against the wall. 

Crack! The screen shattered into a spiderweb of broken glass. 

Kenneth collapsed, face in hands, sobbing uncontrollably.

I’d returned to my hometown. Mom had left me the house, and since Dad had long remarried, the whole place was just mine now. 

But I didn’t feel lonely. On the contrary, I felt an overwhelming peace. 

After a week’s rest, I found work nearby. 

Once my childhood friends heård I was back, they came over with bags full of groceries, demanding dinner. 

We’d all grown up on the same street. We knew each other inside and out. 

No one asked what I had been through. 

Within two hours, the dining table was covered in dishes. I glanced at the spread and realized–half of them were my favorites. 

Sitting beside me, Monica Stevenson leaned in and whispered, “All the ones you like were made by Shawn.” 

My heart skipped a beat. When I looked up, I locked eyes with Shawn Bollie, sitting across from me. 

He held my gaze for a moment, then calmly reached over and placed another bite of food on my plate. 

“Why are you staring? Eat.” 

“Mm…” I murmured, lowering my head and quietly eating. 

Shawn had loved me–something I’d realized too late. 

But by then, I was already with Kenneth. 

When I publicly announced I had a boyfriend, it was the first time I had ever seen Shawn lose control. 

He’d stared at our clasped hands, then left without a word. 

I thought I had offended him somehow. When I chased after him, he’d pulled me into a crushing embrace–hot tears scalding my neck. 

At that moment, I understood everything. 

But I couldn’t reciprocate his feelings. Still, I never expected that after all these years, Shawn would still have feelings for me.
