I was wheeled out, still unconscious from anesthesia. 

Kenneth’s face turned ashen. His legs nearly gave out as he stumbled forward. 

His gaze dropped to my now–flat stomach, and his heart twisted violently–as if someone had plunged a knife into it. 

His body felt weightless like he’d been hurled into zero gravity. His head spun uncontrollably. 

Beside him, a nurse gasped in alarm–just as Kenneth collapsed to the floor. 

I woke from a deep, heavy sleep, my body still exhausted. 

When I reached weakly for the water on the bedside table, Kenneth was already there, holding the cup to my lips. 

After a few sips, I turned my head to look at him. 

Kenneth looked haggard, his eyes rimmed with red. 

His teeth were clenched so tightly that his jaw trembled. His fists were balled, veins bulging. 

“Why… why did you go and get rid of the baby without telling me?” 

His entire being was seething with suppressed rage. Afraid he’d say something he’d regret, he wouldn’t look at me- only stared at the polished hospital floor. 

“Let’s get a divorce. I’ll let you and Shannon be together. And in return, let me go.” 

“Just because I missed your prenatal appointments? Don’t you think that’s a little ridiculous?” 

Kenneth let out a strained, humorless laugh. Tears splattered onto the tiles. 

He couldn’t understand. In his mind, he’d only made minor mistakes–yet I’d escalated things to an unforgivable ex- 

treme. 

That was a human life we were talking about. 

I studied him calmly, my voice frail but cutting. 

“Funny. I never knew you cared so much about this child–enough to never once ask about it.” 

Kenneth froze, shame flooding his features. He had no rebuttal. 

Deep down, he knew the truth. These past months, he’d been absent–physically and emotionally–because of Shan- 

non. 

When Regina needed his support, he wasn’t there.

Chapter 6

When she reached out, he brushed her off. 

Even when she and Shannon clashed, he’d never once taken her side. 

Every past mistake, every cruel choice, now came back to him like a boomerang, stabbing him piece by piece. 

Kenneth’s eyes glistened as he reached out and gripped my hand with startling force. 

“Regina, I failed you before. Let me make it up to you.” 

I tried to pull away, but his hold didn’t budge. 

With a sigh, I said quietly, “I don’t need you to. If you truly care, just give me a fair settlement in the divorce.” 

His fingers tightened abruptly around my wrist–so hard it hurt. I winced. 

Kenneth’s voice turned dangerously low, edged with obsession. “There will be no divorce.” 

“Your mother won’t allow this.” Kenneth’s domineering nature mirrored his mother’s exactly. The only reason he’d been able to marry me in the first place was after half a year of fierce opposition against his mother, Jean Tanvy. 

If Jean found out I’d terminated the pregnancy, she’d explode–and immediately pressure Kenneth to divorce me. 

Kenneth met my gaze. “She won’t know.” 

I frowned. “You can’t hide this forever. Why go through the trouble-” 

He cut me off sharply, “Just focus on recovering. Leave the rest to me!” 

With that, he turned away, switching off the light before climbing into bed beside me. 

Three days later, I was discharged from the hospital. 

As I began consulting divorce lawyers–Jean appeared at our doorstep. Her eyes zeroed in on my flat stomach instant- ly. 

Face darkening with fury, she stormed toward me. 

Kenneth immediately blocked her path, his glare shifting like a blade to the woman beside Jean–Shannon.
