Chapter 984
Jamie and Johanna both turned toward Thomas.
On the way over, Johanna had already been told what happened. Though her brother hadn’t admitted it outright, she knew him too well. She was almost certain that the one who ruined Sharon’s hand was none other than Jamie. 2
She also knew he had never been able to stomach Victoria suffering even the slightest grievance.
The moment she heard the news, excitement surged through her veins. Jamie had truly done it–he had erased the threat that was Sharon.
Victoria had once said the person Thomas was searching for might very well be Sharon.
But now, with Sharon’s hand destroyed, she could no longer play the violin. She would never be able to recreate the performance from that night. 1
In other words, the evidence was gone forever.
Johanna could finally breathe. She no longer had to fear being exposed. How could she not feel elated?
Jamie’s gaze flicked toward Thomas.
He remembered clearly–that day, Thomas had first called Lex and had been absolutely certain they
were together.
Jamie had considered the possibility that Thomas was bluffing. But it was too dangerous to gamble.
When he went to Listoria City to kidnap Sharon, he had already been taking a risk. Destroying her
hand had sealed an irreconcilable enmity.
Back then, it had been so close–just a little more, and he would have succeeded in taking her away
with him.
Once they were out of Zachemaine, Sharon would have been at his mercy. He could have tormented her however he pleased, even driven her insane.
But in the end, he had underestimated her.
His fingers brushed unconsciously across his face.
The scar Sharon had carved into him had healed under the meticulous care of his medical team. The wound was no longer grotesque, no longer frightening.
Yet if one looked closely, faint traces still lingered.

Sharon had nearly disfigured him.
And the two stabs to his leg whatever nerve they had struck–still ached faintly whenever it rained.
She had to be eliminated.
The thought brought a low laugh to Jamie’s lips.
“If you truly have evidence, then show it. Why play at smoke and mirrors here?”
At most, Thomas might have tracked his movements with Lex. But there was no way he could possess actual evidence.
That day, nearly everyone present had been either his or Lex’s men. And Lex would never be foolish enough to leave himself exposed.
“If we produced it now,” Thomas replied coldly, “wouldn’t the evidence be destroyed on the spot- erased, leaving nothing behind?”
His words tore through the pretense, baring the truth for all to see.
“After all, aside from Sharon, no one here wishes for the culprit to be you. If it truly were you, what would become of the partnership between the Kalen and Walton families?
“Would Victoria still maintain her friendship with you in name? After all the benefits the Walton family has bestowed on the Kalen family, how should they hold you accountable?
“Too light a punishment, and they fail to uphold justice for Sharon. Too heavy, and it undermines all you’ve contributed over the years.”
Rick, hearing the barbed mockery beneath Thomas’s tone, roared in outrage.
“Nonsense! What do you take the Kalen family for? Petty merchants chasing profit?!” 2
Thomas’s lips curved in a cool smile.
“Since you’re so confident, Rick, why don’t you swear an oath right here, in front of everyone? If Jamie is truly guilty, the Kalen family will sever all ties with the Waltons and stand with Sharon. You and the family will fight for her, no matter the cost–this feud will end only when one side is utterly destroyed.”
Scott frowned.
“Let’s be reasonable. Sharon lost her career as a violinist, but she hasn’t lost the use of her hand. To declare a blood feud over this… that seems like a drastic overreaction.” 21
Silas followed quickly, his voice low and steady.

“And what if it wasn’t Jamie? Let’s not forget he’s the head of the Walton family. You can’t just accuse a man like that without ironclad proof.”
