Chapter 184
Valeria heard the question, but she didn’t answer.
She handed the phone back to Beatrice, scanned the code to pay, and returned to her seat to
wait for her food.
When Sebastian heard her silence, he knew the answer straight away. Who else could it be but
Shane?
He shouldn’t have asked, seeing that he had just made himself upset.
However, Sebastian brought it on himself. Couldn’t Valeria lie to at least appease him? Was it so difficult to say she was dining alone?
Once the ravioli arrived at the hospital, Sebastian distributed them among his colleagues in the department.
“Thank you, Dr. Grant.” A nurse brought two portions of ravioli to the nurses‘ station before handing a portion out to another nurse. Lowering her voice, she uttered, “Why do I feel like Dr. Grant is slightly more approachable today but also strangely moody?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, he doesn’t seem so distant anymore, but he keeps having a gloomy expression.”
Right then, another nurse walked over. “I heard it was Dr. Grant’s girlfriend who bought us
the food.”
“Is Dr. Grant dating someone?”
The group immediately stared at each other in shock.
“Who told you that? That’s top–tier gossip for our cardiology department.”
“I heard it from a doctor in Dr. Gordon’s team, Dr. York.”
“Our dream guy actually has a girlfriend! I wonder what she’s like.”
“How does she compare to Ruby? Ruby pursued Dr. Grant for a long time. She even followed him overseas.”
“Shh! Keep your voice down. How could you say her name aloud?”
While eating her ravioli, Valeria burned the inside of her mouth.

That was because an Instagram post gave her the shock of her life.
Back then, she had added Shawn’s assistant on Instagram during the pre–op discussions for
Selena’s surgery.
Jamie York, the said assistant, had uploaded a post, captioned, “Dr. Grant’s girlfriend bought dinner for our department tonight. Thank you!”
Sebastian had even liked the post.
Valeria gently ran her tongue over the scalded spot, frowning.
Next to her, Shane noticed and poured her a glass of water. “Go easy. Don’t burn yourself.”
Valeria took a sip and looked at the post again. It was a box of ravioli and some fruit on the side. However, the packaging clearly showed “Beatrice’s Ravioli“.
After they finished their meal, Valeria and Shane left the ravioli shop.
Across the street, beside the apartment building, sat a small fruit store where she often picked up a bit of fruit after work.
Jeremy Henderson, the elderly shopkeeper, knew Valeria well and had always offered her fair prices.
Valeria wasn’t planning on buying anything tonight because her fridge at home was still full. Besides, she had already stocked up on groceries at the mall yesterday.
However, just as they were walking past, he called out to her, saying, “Val, Shane, you haven’t paid for the strawberries yet.”
Valeria and Shane halted in their tracks.
Shane was confused, but he instinctively pulled out his phone to make the payment.
Jeremy then continued, “Two boxes of strawberries, ten dragon fruits, and a box of cherry tomatoes. Just give me 130 dollars.”
Valeria and Shane looked at each other blankly.
They hadn’t bought any fruit, had they?
Weren’t their hands empty?
