Chapter 175
Valeria had Shane take a seat before heading to the kitchen to pour him a glass of water. She then saw him rolling up his sleeves and picking up a broom to sweep away the cigarette ash by
the doorway.
Valeria felt a little embarrassed. “Let me do it.”
Shane smiled and asked, “Do you have a boyfriend?”
“…No, not really.”
He replied gently, “You’re at the age for one anyway. Try dating them if you find someone you like. Just make sure that he’s a good person.”
Valeria handed him the glass of water and replied, “I know. But anyway, like you’re one to talk. Mrs. Clark has been waiting for you to show her your girlfriend.”
“It’ll happen when it happens, I guess.”
Shane was never the type to seek out a partner, partly because of his nonchalant character.
It was Lucy who was panicking for him instead given his age.
When he left Valeria’s home, he glanced at the shoe cabinet by the door and noticed a pair of men’s slippers.
It was often said that a woman’s sixth sense was sharp, but a man’s was not any less.
The slippers looked like just about any ordinary pair of slippers, but they were actually from a luxury brand.
Shane recalled the man who had been looking at him with hostility and scrutiny when he was coming down the stairs earlier as well as the two gift boxes by the door. Piecing the clues together, he deduced that the man was here for Valeria.
Back home, Lucy was listening to an audiobook on the couch with the TV running as well. She liked to listen to singing programs as she preferred the lively atmosphere.
When Shane returned, she quickly struck up a conversation with him about his life in Amaran as well as his love life.
He replied to her questions briefly before shifting the topic away. “By the way, Mom, does Valeria have a boyfriend?”
She replied, “I don’t know, maybe. She’s a pretty and gentle woman. There are probably a lot of men chasing after her. You know, I’ve got a few men from my morning dance club chasing after me, too.”

“Valeria’s still young and naive, so she needs to choose her partner carefully and not get tricked. You should remind her about this from time to time.”
Lucy replied at length, “Valeria’s beautiful, but she already has a child. Who knows how badly she would’ve been bullied had she not come into our family. It’s hard to get a stepfather these days. What if they mistreat her?
“There’s this rich guy who’s been rather close to her recently,” she added, having remembered something. “As you know, folks from wealthy families are not exactly the best people. They’re probably not getting together, but I’m still afraid that Valeria will get deceived.
“Being tricked into falling in love is worse than being tricked into a one–night stand these days.”
She was certainly open–minded.
Shane merely frowned after listening to her reply.
Lucy then continued, “None of this would be a problem if both of you remarried each other.”
He felt a little helpless. “Mom, I don’t really mind it, but please don’t say that to Valeria. She’s had it hard enough already. There’s no need to make things awkward between us.”
Love was built on mutual feelings after all. Both Shane and Valeria were extremely calm and gentle folks. They would be a good match for each other in a marriage, but they had long lost any desire for it.
Lucy replied, “Okay, then.”
She put her earbuds back in and decided to never bring up anything about marriage ever again, as it only irritated her every time she did.
She decided not to care about it any longer.
Lucy was no fool. She did not mind nagging her own son, but she had no reason to nag Valeria, who was not part of her family.
Even Lucy would be able to tell that it would just be awkward if she did it. It left her with no choice but to nag Shane about it.
Valeria took a shower before opening up the two gift bags on the table. One of them held a box of big, sweet–looking strawberries. The other box was tightly wrapped in a dustproof bag.
Opening it up revealed a long blue gown. The dress was filled with embroidery patterns of roses, while the thinner fabric gave the dress a shimmering, ethereal touch.
The design of the dress was the latest haute couture from an Elarian fashion show.

It made its debut at the fashion show. It was so new that it was not even accessible on the
brand’s official website yet.
Valeria had always been knowledgeable and stayed up to date about fashion brands. A business partner recently suggested her team create high–quality knockoffs of such haute couture to sell online. That was rejected immediately.
Only prestigious entertainment agencies could even get to borrow such a dress with the help of so–called friendly connections.
The newly made dress had only been worn by models, never appearing on any celebrity in public.
Being the first to wear such a dress in public would serve to solidify one’s status. That person would be guaranteed to make it onto trending news.
Valeria never expected such an expensive and prestigious gown to end up in her hands. The waistline of the dress was even slightly tucked in, altered to her exact measurements.
Being first in line for such haute couture would require anywhere from hundreds to even
thousands of millions of dollars.
Valeria held the dress against herself in front of the mirror, allowing it to flow down her body like a river filled with blue roses.
She carefully folded the gown back into the dustproof bag.
Then, she reached for her phone, opened up a delivery service application, and booked a
pickup for 10:00 am the next morning.
