Meanwhile, Filbert had ordered his people to take down every trace of the videos and photos of me online. Then, he began frantically calling my phone. 

He wanted to explain–to tell me that he didn’t release the videos. 

Unfortunately, no one picked up. 

The image of my lifeless, hollow eyes kept flashing through his mind, stirring a vague, persistent unease deep in his 

chest. 

Pacing the room, phone in hand, he dialed again and again. 

“Felicia, just pick up! As long as you do, I’ll let everything go–we can start over!” 

But all he got was the same automated message. “The number you’re trying to reach is currently unavailable.” 

Refusing to give up, he pulled up my WhatsApp and started texting. 

“Felicia, what the hell are you doing? I didn’t leak those videos! I’ve already had everything about you removed on- line. What more do you want from me?” Purchase completed 

No matter how many messages he sent, it was like throwing rocks into the ocean. Nothing came back. 

Just then, Nancy pushed open the door and walked in. 

“Filbert, what are you still doing in here? All our friends are here, and they’re waiting for you.” 

It was Nancy’s birthday, and Filbert had thrown a small party for her at his house, inviting a bunch of friends over. 

But with Felicia suddenly missing, he had lost any interest in celebrating. 

In the past, no matter how angry she got, she never truly disappeared. At most, she’d make a scene and then come back to him on her own. She had never cut contact like this. 

Thinking back over the past few days, Filbert suddenly realized the change in her had started after he’d abandoned her at the wedding–again. 

After that, she never got mad again. 

Even when he brought Nancy into their home, she didn’t react. It was like she didn’t care anymore. 

Was it because of the wedding? 

With that thought, Filbert grabbed his phone and sent another message. 

“Let’s get married this Christmas. I promise this time, I won’t leave you behind. Isn’t that enough?”

Nancy, seeing Filbert distracted and ignoring her, pouted with displeasure? 

“If you don’t want to celebrate with me, then forget it. I’ll just tell everyone to leave.”

Seeing that she was starting to sulk, Filbert forced himself to smile and gently coaxed her, “No, no–I was just think- ing about something at work. Of course, I want to celebrate your birthday, Nancy.” 

With that, he took her hand and led her out to join the others. 

Nancy leaned into his arms affectionately. 

Their friends began to cheer and tease them, and amid the noise, she gave Filbert a quick kiss on the lips. 

Usually, Filbert would’ve been all over her by now. 

But today, for some reason, he felt uncomfortable with the intimacy. No matter how he tried, he couldn’t stop the im- age of Felicia’s broken eyes from resurfacing. 

Still, with everyone watching, he didn’t push Nancy away. 

After a few rounds of drinks, one of the guests suddenly asked, “Filbert, did you really post that video of Felicia on- line? That was cold, man. No matter what, she was your fiancée.” 

Filbert was about to deny it, but Nancy jumped in first. 

“He only did it to stand up for me! She’s always bullied me just because she comes from a rich family. Filbert said it was time she learned a lesson.” 

Left with no choice, Filbert nodded in agreement.

Nancy noticed the frustration tightening Filbert’s face and felt a flash of smug satisfaction in her heart.

“She’s probably just sulking,” she said sweetly. “Trying to get your attention by hiding somewhere and making you worry.” 

Filbert narrowed his eyes and let out a cold laugh. 

“She thinks she can just disappear, and that’ll solve everything? Let her throw her tantrum. I want to see how long she can hide. I’m not going to look for her.”
