Zachary got up and walked to the driver’s seat, then took her hand and guided her into the passenger side.
Dressed in a black overcoat, he settled behind the wheel of a pink car without the slightest trace of awkwardness. If anything, he looked a little feminine.
“You’re so timid, yet you still followed me?”
“If you end up behind bars, I’ll be living like a widow,” she murmured.
Zachary chuckled. “You really don’t know your husband at all, do you?”
“But you still shouldn’t have crippled his hand just because he grabbed mine.”
Evelyn had told Zachary about Ian long ago, but Zachary never took action. For a while, Jessica had thought he was nothing but a cold–blooded animal.
“That’s another matter. I’m not stupid enough to take revenge that way.”
“Why, then? And why hasn’t Ian pressed charges?”
“He embezzled more than two million in company funds,” Zachary replied, coming up with an excuse. “Breaking his hand was just a way to make him remember his place.”
Jessica was stunned to hear this. So she’d misunderstood, thinking he did it out of anger for
her. It turned out to be because of money.
Well, it wasn’t surprising. If he’d wanted to avenge her, he would’ve acted that same night and not waited until now. Besides, two million dollars wasn’t a small sum.
Jessica turned to the window, her back facing him. Her chest tightened.
Zachary glanced at her, noticing that she’d changed. She was now actually worried about him.
Something stirred within him.
Not long after, the car pulled up in front of Zachary’s place.
Susan had already delivered the clothes from the CEO’s office. Looking at her, Jessica suddenly felt like Susan was something of a magic tool, appearing only when needed.
“Mrs. Jones, your and Mr. Jones‘ clothes are already in the room.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
With that, Jessica slumped onto the couch, trying to recollect herself. What had just happened was genuinely nerve–racking. She had been tense and scared, worried that something might
happen to Zachary.
An indescribable feeling pricked at her. She cared about his opinion, especially regarding lan’s
case.
She extended her hands and stared at them. When she’d been wiping Zachary down earlier, she couldn’t even remember what she was doing. That perfectly sculpted body had been right in front of her, but she’d been too focused on the task at hand.
She’d barely registered his taut abs, chiseled V–line, and defined muscles… until now. Thinking about it made her face burn.
She groaned. “I’ve sinned…”
As she buried her head under a pillow, Zachary happened to walk in. He shot her a subtle, amused glance before heading upstairs to shower.
Jessica stayed sprawled on the couch for a while longer, regaining her nerves before finally hauling herself up.
Remembering that they still had a banquet to attend that night, she hurried upstairs to get ready.
The moment Jessica opened the door, she froze and flushed crimson.
She hastily spun around to leave, but bumped into the door instead. A loud yelp escaped her lips when her forehead hit the door, and it swung shut behind her.
Hissing in pain, she massaged her forehead, her feet remaining rooted in front of the door. She didn’t dare budge an inch.
Zachary was getting changed, and the view had stunned Jessica into silence.
That body of his was ethereal. She couldn’t tell how many abs he had, but she was certain that his abdomen looked divine. His chest was solid and impressive, and even his biceps looked
lethal.
She’d never imagined his body to look like that without clothes on.
Zachary eyed her and chuckled. Pulling on his pants, he sauntered toward her and asked, ” Honey, what are you so shy about?”
His voice drew closer–so close that his warm breath brushed against her face.
“I’m sorry!” she squeaked. “Why don’t you finish changing first? I’ll come back later.”
