Zachary sent a message to Jessica to thank her for the dessert, saying it was delicious.
Jessica replied, “You’re welcome.”
After showering, Jessica sat at her vanity, staring at his message. The screen kept showing that he was typing.
At the same time, Zachary was looking at his phone, seeing that she was typing as well.
In the end, neither of them sent a message.
Joshua, meanwhile, had been driven crazy.
One was hopelessly romantic, unable to express himself.
The other was as stubborn as a mule, trying to wall herself off from love.
“Who exactly is Mrs. Jones?”
“She’s been around for so long, and I haven’t seen her yet.”
“Mr. Jones has been wearing a wedding ring for two months. Could it be a shotgun wedding?”
The employees sipped their drinks while munching on gossip.
Zachary heard it all but didn’t react.
As soon as Jessica sat down at The Mansion, Mickey and Matthew quickly and politely positioned themselves on either side of her.
She felt a little awkward, glancing at the two of them, sensing something strange.
The three who walked in afterward all stared at this oddly arranged trio.
Jessica looked like a little princess being protected in the middle, flanked by two dutiful black- suited bodyguards. They were both in black suits, and with glasses on, they did look like security personnel.
Mickey had already ordered, and the dishes started coming out gradually.
“Ms. Lockman, do you have a boyfriend?” Matthew asked.
Everyone immediately shot her curious looks.
She had just stuffed another almond into her mouth, puffing her cheeks. “I don’t have a boyfriend, but I’m married.”
Sensing that the two men beside her were pure trouble, she just told the truth.
Robert stifled a laugh. In his eyes, Jessica wasn’t the type to get married so casually. She was probably just saying it to brush these two off.
Mickey and Matthew responded meaningfully. They assumed everyone would believe it, but no one did.
Lucas had noticed her the moment he arrived at Jonest and had asked around about her. All he knew was that she had just come out of a breakup.
Jessica snorted and kept eating. After a while, she excused herself to the restroom. On her way there, she suddenly came across a scene that made her heart skip a beat.
Evelyn was flirting shamelessly with a middle–aged man. “Steven, come on. Help me out here. I beg you.”
“Eve, love isn’t that simple. Moving too fast just ruins everything.”
The man’s figure looked familiar.
He was neither fat nor skinny, with a build that looked good shirtless, standing over five feet nine. He had sharp features, perfect cheekbones, and a cleanly shaved jawline with just a hint of stubble.
But his face was out of view. Jessica hurriedly pulled out her phone, opened her photo gallery, and frantically flipped through it, keeping a close eye on Evelyn and the man as she searched.
Then, she found it. It was an old photo from over 20 years ago. The man in it was handsome, had bright eyes, and was full of vitality.
She quickly looked toward Evelyn but found that the man was already leaving. She hurried
after him.
At this moment, a waitress carrying a teapot accidentally collided with her. Tea spilled everywhere, but luckily, it wasn’t hot.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” Jessica quickly helped clean up.‘
By the time she finished, the man was long gone.
“Ms. Lockman, are you okay?” Evelyn returned just then.
“It’s nothing, Evelyn.”
“Good. Let’s go.”
Evelyn pursed her lips, looking quite pleased.
“The man you were just talking to was…”
“My dad.”
“Your dad?”
“Yeah!”
Jessica’s chest tightened with a wave of suffocating pressure.
