Chapter 21
The woman wore a white dress and a wide-brimmed hat that concealed her face.
Although he couldn’t see her clearly, Caspian felt an unsettling sense of familiarity.
Spencer led her by the hand to the head of the conference table.
In front of everyone, Spencer pulled out the chair for her, waiting for her to sit.
Only after she was seated did he take his own seat.
The people below began to whisper.
They say Mr. Hayes dotes on his wife. It’s certainly true.”
Spencer’s features were sharp, his aura reserved, exuding an air of quiet power.
He crossed his legs, his expression calm and unreadable.
There is only one item on the agenda for today’s meeting. I will be gifting my fifty percent stake in this company to my fiancée, Ms. Seraphina Beaumont.”
Although everyone already knew this was coming, hearing it confirmed still elicited a murmur of amazement.
Just as expected of the Hayes family, to give away a fifty-percent stake just like that.
Hearing the name Seraphina Beaumont, Caspian’s frown deepened. Was there a connection between this Seraphina and his Seraphina?
But since arriving, the woman hadn’t removed her hat, so no one could see her face.
A knot of suspicion tightened in Caspian’s gut.
The room fell silent. Spencer said calmly, “If there are no objections, the transfer ceremony will begin now.”
The words had barely left his mouth when Caspian stood up. “I object.”
Caspian adjusted his cuffs, saying seriously. “Mr. Hayes, when Kingsley Corp. was on the verge of bankruptcy, it was the Hayes Group that saved us. In doing so, you acquired a fifty-percent stake and became our largest shareholder.”
You are our company’s savior, and I have no objection to you being our largest shareholder. However, if you intend to transfer that ownership, then I must nsist on buying back your shares.”
The crowd was shocked that Caspian would openly challenge Spencer, but they understood his reasoning.
Beside him, Seraphina’s lips curled into a slight smile. Caspian was as arrogant and self-assured as ever.
Spencer stared at him, his eyes narrowed, and said mockingly, “And if I refuse?” ‘
‘I may have no personal interest in Kingsley Corp., but my fiancée has some unfinished business with this company. Since she wants to play, as her fiancé, I will naturally see it through to the end.”
‘Besides, the shares are mine to give. Your approval is irrelevant.”
The atmosphere in the room instantly grew heavy. The other shareholders didn’t dare speak.
Caspian frowned, pressing his lips together. He turned to the woman beside Spencer, his tone still respectful.
“Miss Beaumont, the shares of Kingsley Corp. are of no real use to you. I am willing to buy them back at twice the market price.”
“I’m not sure with whom in my company you have a grievance, but if you tell me, perhaps I can be of assistance.”
Everyone waited for her reply.
Although the Beaumont family was wealthy, they were still businesspeople, and businesspeople valued profit.
Caspian had offered twice the market price. Any sensible person would take the deal.
But to everyone’s surprise, she rejected him flatly, her tone light, “Not for sale.”
Although she had deliberately lowered her voice, he recognized it instantly.
It was Seraphina!
He would never mistake that voice as long as he lived.
His voice trembled, the corners of his eyes inexplicably moist. “Seraphina, is that you? You’re back.”
“We were together for three years. I could never mistake your voice.”
