Chapter 14
Before coming, Seraphina had done her homework on the Hayes family and recognized the woman speaking.
She was Jessica Sheffield, the niece of Spencer’s second uncle’s wife.
Her family had fallen on hard times, so she had been living with the Hayes family for years.
Not only that, but the second branch of the family intended to marry her off to Spencer.
Unfortunately for her, Spencer had been waiting for Seraphina all these years and was completely oblivious to Jessica’s advances.
That explained the blatant hostility.
Spencer was about to step in, but Seraphina stopped him, saying softly, “She’s coming after me. I can handle this.”
Seraphina raised an eyebrow at Jessica, saying faintly. “It seems Miss Sheffield knows me very well.”
Jessica snorted. “I wouldn’t say I know you. It’s just that your reputation is so terrible, Miss Beaumont, it would be hard not to have heard of you.”
The Beaumont and Hayes families may have had a marriage agreement, but that was ages ago.”
“Miss Beaumont was lost as a child and never received a proper noble upbringing. She might be suitable for an ordinary wealthy family, but the Hayes family is a century-old dynasty. You, Miss Beaumont, are not qualified.”
The room was frighteningly quiet, no one dared to make a sound.
The chill emanating from Spencer intensified, his gaze sharp enough to kill.
But Seraphina remained perfectly composed, a faint smile on her lips.
‘Well, I can see that Miss Sheffield clearly looks down on me. But what can I do? I have wonderful parents, and the marriage between the Hayes and Beaumont Families was arranged a generation ago.”

Of course. It’s you I love.”
n everyone’s eyes, Spencer had always been ruthless and detached, merciless even to his own family. No one had ever seen him dote on anyone like this.
Then, Spencer turned a sharp gaze on Jessica. “Miss S uture mistress of this home. If you ever dare

The second branch of the Hayes family had been suppressed by Spencer for years. Now that they had an opportunity, they certainly weren’t going to let it go.
“That’s right, brother. Seraphina plagiarized someone else’s work. The Beaumont family might be able to afford that embarrassment, but the Hayes family
cannot.”
Instantly, the way everyone looked at Seraphina changed.
Their gazes were filled with disdain.
But Seraphina remained unruffled. “Miss Sheffield, do you only ever get half the story? Are you not aware that all of my original drafts were revealed at Thalia
Anderson’s awards ceremony?”
Jessica was unmoved. “Hah, so what? You’re the Beaumont heiress, and you have Spencer in your pocket. Forget a few drafts, you could probably make the organizers say Thalia was the one who plagiarized.”
The crowd began to murmur.
“That’s true. With the Beaumont family’s status, it would be easy to twist the truth.”
“Tsk, to think Spencer would be single for so many years, only to choose a plagiarist.”
‘Keep your voice down. What can you do? She has powerful parents who can fix anything for her.”
Mr. Hayes wasn’t sure of the exact details, but he had gathered the gist of the situation.
He said in a low voice, “Alright, that’s enough. This matter is closed. No one is to bring it up again.”
The words had barely left his mouth when Seraphina spoke up. “Mr. Hayes, this matter does concern me. Since Miss Sheffield seems to have such a deep misunderstanding, I feel it’s best we clear the air.”
