Chapter 3

“Here, Seraphina. If you wear my clothes, maybe Caspian will learn to love you a little more.”

Thalia taunted.

“I actually feel sorry for you. In the Anderson family, you’re my stand in. With Casplan, you’re not even that. If I were you, I’d have gotten the hell out of here a long time ago.”

“You know, Caspian can never get enough of me in bed, but…”

Seraphina couldn’t bear to hear another word. She slapped the gift box from Thalia’s hands, her voice a low warning.

“That’s enough! Get your facts straight. Right now, I am still Caspian Kingsley’s wife. Provoke me again, and I’ll take this trash downstairs and show every single guest exactly how you seduce your own brother-in-law!”

The moment the words left her mouth, Thalia crumpled to the ground, sobbing pitifully.

Seraphina, I’m so sorry! I’ll never go near Caspian again. If you really hate me this much, I’ll buy a plane ticket and leave the country right now. I won’t stay

ere and be an eyesore to you anymore.”

Caspian rushed over from behind, helping Thalia to her feet and pulling her protectively into his arms.

Mr. Anderson charged forward and, without asking a single question, slapped Seraphina hard across the face. “Seraphina!” He raged. “Thalia is the true heiress of this family! Remember your place! If you dare bully her again, don’t blame me for forgetting all our years as father and daughter!”

eraphina’s ears rang from the blow. She turned her head, bit her lip, and said through clenched teeth, “She provoked me first. She…”

Caspian cut her off with a frown. “That’s enough. We all know what kind of person Thalia is. She would never provoke you. You must have done something.”

I know you’re jealous because I didn’t acknowledge you tonight, but keeping our marriage a secret was our agreement. Why are you being so dramatic about it

LOW?”

Seraphina, I’m very disappointed in you.”

Don’t even bother coming home tonight. Stay here and think about what you’ve done.” Cradling Thalia, Caspian quickly left the rooftop.

eraphina clutched her chest, fighting back tears as she rushed forward, desperate to explain.

ust as she reached the door, he kicked it shut violently. Seraphina’s hand was caught in the frame, and the blinding pain sent her crumpling to her knees.

bloody gash split open the back of her hand. Seraphina’s whole body trembled, convulsing from the agony.

n that moment, Seraphina learned that when pain was extreme enough, you couldn’t even scream.

eaning against the wall, tears streamed down her face as she murmured over and over.

Caspian, this time, we are completely, utterly over.”

Because Seraphina had bled all over the floor, a maid took her to the hospital.

it the hospital, the doctor wanted to give her an anesthetic, but Seraphina refused.

Only by remembering this pain would she learn her lesson for good.

eraphina’s hand required more than ten stitches, and the doctor warned her to rest it properly, or it would scar.

Because the wound showed signs of infection, the doctor suggested she stay overnight for observation.

At 11:55 PM, Spencer called.

‘Seraphina, happy birthday.”

Instantly, Seraphina’s eyes stung with tears, and her voice came out hoarse.

“Thank you. You’re the only person who’s wished me a happy birthday.”

Spencer said, “You don’t sound right. Have you been crying?”

Did someone give you a hard time? Who was it?”

Hearing Spencer’s words, Seraphina felt a warmth spread through her. He was the only person who had shown her any concern all nig

Seraphina forced her emotions down. “It’s nothing. I was just watching a sad TV show.”

There was a pause on Spencer’s end. He clearly didn’t buy her excuse but didn’t press the issue.

“I see. Well, don’t watch too much TV at night, it’s bad for your eyes.”

“I have a birthday gift for you. I’ll bring it on the day I come to pick you up.”

“And one more thing. You don’t have to put up with being bullied. Tell me who it is, and I’ll get even for you.”

In a daze, Seraphina remembered Caspian had once said the same thing to her.

Only, Caspian had long since forgotten his promise.

Seraphina managed a faint smile. “Okay. It’s getting late. You should get some rest.”

Somehow, after hanging up, Seraphina slept soundly, as if the pain had vanished.

The next day, the first thing Seraphina did upon waking was find a lawyer to draft divorce papers.
