Richard’s chest heaved with rage, his entire bearing that of a father furious over the harm done to
his daughter.
“I’ll make Jamie for this!”
Rick’s brows twitched, but instead of echoing his father’s fury, his gaze shifted to Sharon.
“Sharon, Jamie may have acted under the pretext of avenging Victoria, but this matter has nothing, to do with her. Victoria knew nothing of it. She’s still in Marcentine, hospitalized. You’re aware her arm was doused with sulfuric acid–her skin was badly damaged, and she’s undergoing treatment now.” (2
Sharon remained silent.
Even if Victoria had not orchestrated it, the entire incident had stemmed from her. How could Sharon possibly be magnanimous enough to say she bore her no grudge?
At last, Richard’s fury cooled, his voice softening “Sharon, don’t worry. I will see justice done for you.”
Sharon lowered her eyes slightly.
Justice? And how exactly would he seek it?
She knew perfectly well that the Kalen family and the Walton family were bound by deep cooperation, largely thanks to Victoria’s long–standing ties with Jamie and Johanna.
For years, Jamie had pursued Victoria, and through that pursuit, the Kalen family reaped enormous benefits in business. Outside of the Kalen family, however, Jamie let no one take the slightest advantage of him–not even the Malcolm family.
That was the true reason Rick valued Victoria so highly.
And Sharon did not believe for a second that Richard would sacrifice those lucrative ties with the Walton family for her sake.
As if sensing her thoughts, Richard sighed. “Sharon, the cooperation between the Kalen and Walton Groups is extensive. It isn’t something I can explain clearly in a few words. And besides, Kalen Group is vast–it isn’t mine alone to command. Even if I wanted to cut ties with the Walton Group, the shareholders would never agree.”
Rick frowned, his tone pragmatic. “Sharon, you will one day hold a stake in the Kalen Group as well, so you should understand that there are no eternal enemies in business, only eternal interests. Ending cooperation with the Walton Group would bring incalculable losses to both sides. As for Jamie

“You and I need no such courtesy,” Carter replied.
Then he turned his gaze on Richard and Rick, his handsome face hardening with a frosty chill.
“Richard. Rick. Jamie abducted Sharon and crippled both her hands. From this day forward, she can never play the violin again, and even her daily life will be affected. And yet, you still wish to cooperate with a man who destroyed her future and endangered her very life?”
Cold, razor–sharp light flickered in his eyes.
“The Kalen Group is one of the world’s most powerful groups. Losing the Walton Group as a partner will not shake your foundation. Tell me–are these scraps of profit really worth more, in your hearts, than your own flesh and blood?”
