Chapter 75

Jessica clutched a bag, eyes unfocused as she stared at the man ahead. Don’t touch me, you prick!”

A groan lingered in the air. Jason stood about three feet away, his lower back aching and his frown deepening. He dared not get too close.

Just then, Zachary’s car pulled up to the curb. He got out quickly and rushed over, taking one look at the tipsy Jesicca and the flush on her neck.

She opened her arms wide and wrapped them around his waist. Zachary”

He froze for a second, then quickly placed his hands on her waist to steady her. What’s wrong?”

He gently patted her head. When he saw her bare feet, he didn’t hesitate to bend down and scoop her into his arms.

Nice wife you’ve got there, Zachary.”

Jason pointed at Jessica, then showed off the bruise on his arm and the side of his waist. You called me, so I came right away. Saw her sitting here alone, figured I’d check on her, and boom –she threw me over her shoulder like a pro wrestler.”

I didn’t ask,Zachary responded nonchalantly.

Right.”

He said he’d pay me 20 grand a monthto keep him companyJessica mumbled, still half out of it, and pointed a finger at Jason.

Zachary’s face darkened, and his eyes turned cold.

Jason quickly backed up. Woah, heyI didn’t say that! No way I’m taking the fall for that!”

He still remembered getting his arm nearly dislocated by Zachary simply for mouthing off back when they were kids. The story was famous in their neighbourhood.

Zachary’s cousin was certainly not the type to joke around when he was mad.

You don’t have to take the fall if you find out the truth in ten minutes. No answers by then, and I’ll send you a wheelchair tomorrow.”

GGot it!Jason stuttered, taking off like his shoes were on fire.

Zachary diverted his attention to the high heels placed on the bench and walked over. He bent down, picked them up with two fingers, and reached for the bag Jessica was holding.

Chapter 75

She was clutching it to her chest like her life depended on it.

Come on. Give it to me. I’ll carry it for you,he coaxed gently.

No. It’s his. You can’t take it.”

His? Who was he?

She hugged the bag close and leaned against his chest, breathing in the scent that always made her feel safe. Without another word, he lifted her and walked toward the car.

Zachary gently laid Jessica down on the bed. She was already fast asleep, passed out from the alcohol.

He set the bag he had been holding aside. Inside was her jacket.

Instead of going through it, he walked into the bathroom, filled a bowl of lukewarm water, and came back to wipe off her makeup, including the lipstick smudged on her neck.

That was when he noticed the pearl necklace around her neck and the matching earrings. He carefully removed them without any resistance from her.

She was quiet and obedient, a contrast from the other night.

That night, as soon as she got in the car, she mistook him for Derrick. She kissed him and cried, saying that whatever Celine could give, she could, too.

It broke Zachary. He simply sat here in the car, frozen, letting her do whatever she wanted.

Later, halfway through the drive, she cried herself hoarse, then started hitting and kicking him while cursing out Derrick’s entire family line. She even ripped a button off his shirt, which he never recovered again.

Once she ran out of tears and words, she collapsed into his arms, clinging to Zachary like she never wanted to let go.

He originally planned to take her home, but she refused to let go of him, no matter what he did. She kept clinging to him, complimenting his scent and his attractive abs.

Her hands weren’t exactly behaving either.

It was past 10:00 am the next day when Jessica finally dragged herself out of bed, groggy and lightheaded. She had a total blackoutwith zero idea of how she even got home.

After a shower, she grabbed her phone and headed downstairs. Her head was pounding, and all

she wanted was some water.

Mary, I feel like steak for lunch today, thank you,she mumbled, slumping over the table with her eyes halfshut.

A glass of honey water slid across the table in front of her. She muttered a quick thanks without thinking and downed it in one go. A moment later, she paused and asked, Is he still not back yet?”

Right as the words left her mouth, someone slid a warm sandwich before her. The scent of sandalwood, familiar and comforting, came in with the heat.

Zachary smirked. Who?”

Joshua was right. She did miss him.
