Chapter 9 Change of Attitude

Nancy looked at Raine with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. Is that so? Well, thanks.”

“No worries. We’re sisters, after all,” Raine replied softly.

“Ah, I see. I thought you didn’t like me. Why would your eyes be red as though you’ve suffered some great injustice?

Nancy’s calm reply drew everyone’s attention to Raine. Indeed, the corners of Raine’s eyes were slightly red.

As everyone looked at her curiously, Raine quickly explained, “I’m just too delighted that Nancy’s back. I’m definitely not upset.

“I hope so.” Nancy chuckled softly.

Her chuckle was laced with meaning, leaving Raine feeling humiliated and resentful.

Right then, Andrew spoke up. “We’re a family from now on, and we should get along well. Nancy, here’s a gift for you.”

He handed over a bank card.

Nancy was quite surprised, but after glancing at Marthashe understood immediately. Without hesitation, she accepted the bank card. “Thank you.”

Andrew had been waiting for Nancy to call him “Dad“, but she never spoke the word.

A flicker of displeasure crossed his heart.

As expected, they couldn’t get close because she didn’t grow up in this family.

By the end of the meal, everyone was wrapped up in their own thoughts.

Andrew and his family waited until everyone had left.

When they were alone, Regina quickly went to Martha and complained, “Martha, why did you bring her here without letting us know?”

Martha shot her an icy look. “Do I need your permission to do anything?”

Her strong presence made Regina fall silent. Right then, Raine spoke up, sounding aggrieved. “Grandma, Mom didn’t mean it that way. It’s just that Nancy destroyed my futureMs. Jackson could’ve become my piano teacher.”

Regina swallowed her anger. “Yes, she’s gone too far! She is petty and unsophisticated, without any class whatsoever!”

Yvette Jackson?

A flash of surprise crossed Martha’s eyes, but her tone remained icy“If Ms. Jackson really wanted to take you on as a student, why would she change her mind because of what someone else said? What isn’t yours will never be yours.”

After saying that, she left with Nancy in tow.

Furious, Raine stomped her feet. Regina was pretty irritated, too.

However, Andrew said, “That’s enough. Since she’s back, both of you should treat her well.”

“Darling, she’s far too scheming,” Regina complained, her tone dripping with dislike for Nancy.

Andrew looked at her. “Can’t you see how much Mom trusts Nancy? She still holds 50% of the company shares. All these years, she has never hinted at who she’ll give them to.

“If Nancy gets those shares, it means they’ll be ours, and we’ll get absolute control of the company.‘

Realization finally dawned on Regina. “That makes sense, but Raine will have to suffer.”

She looked at Rainefeeling bad for her daughter.

For a moment, bad thoughts invaded Raine’s heartbut she still wore an obedient smile. “Mom, I’ll be fine. As long as our family can be better off, nothing else matters!”

“What a sensible girl. Don’t worryRaine. You’ll still be our most beloved daughter,” Regina saidpulling Raine into a reassuring hug.

Raine nodded with a smilebut an icy glint flashed across her gaze,

She cursed silently, knowing all her father cared about was his interests.

As she wasn’t their biological daughter, it was natural that they didn’t see her as their top priority.

She could tolerate Nancy’s returnbut Nancy would have to pay the price for disrupting her chance to become Yvette’s student!

Meanwhile, after Nancy followed Martha out, the latter asked, “Where are you living now? Do you want to move in with your family?”

Nancy hesitated briefly but rejected, “Not for now.”

“Right. You can move in later.” With her troublesome parentsNancy wouldn’t have an easy time after coming back.

Thus, Martha instructed her driver to give Nancy a ride home.

Along the way, Martha asked, “Where do you live now? Probably in an old neighborhood, right? I have a house near your company. I’ll have it transferred

to your name tomorrow.”

“Grandma, you don’t have to,” Nancy declined.

Martha didn’t elaborate further, but she had decided to complete the name transfer the following day.

Five minutes later, when Martha saw the luxurious neighborhood ahead, she could barely hide her surprise. “You live here?”
