Chapter 42
Zachary’s hand wandered underneath the blanket, causing Jessica to blurt out, “No… Don’t…”
She clutched the hand he had slid under the covers. Her nervous little plea, to them, sounded more like teasing. Zachary’s low, hoarse voice came through the phone speaker.
Derrick’s hands trembled as he hung up. His grip on the phone was so tight that his knuckles had turned white. His jaw clenched hard, molars grinding, and his eyes were bloodshot with
rage..
In his memory, Jessica had always been reserved, never the type to get close to a man lightly. Even when they were dating for five years, she had barely let him hold her hand.
Sometimes, even holding hands required her consent.
Two years of university, two years long–distance, and a year back together. Not once in those five years had she ever crossed a line.
If not for her modest family background, he honestly would have thought she came from some aristocratic household.
But now, the same woman was lying in another man’s arms, voice soft and seductive. Even if he wasn’t there, just the sounds coming through the phone were enough to make his ears
burn red.
He couldn’t bear to picture her like that in someone else’s bed. With a roar of frustration, he hurled his phone at the wall, shattering it into pieces.
“Zachary…”
Jessica pushed him away, gently but firmly. Her hands pressed against his chest, burning hot to the touch. Her whole body trembled, and her breathing had quickened under his influence.
Zachary, still wearing his glasses, couldn’t hide the hunger in his eyes. She couldn’t understand him. Just earlier, he had been the perfect gentleman. Now, he was like a wild beast.
Had he always been like this when it came to intimacy?
He gulped his saliva, then reached out to gently wipe the light sweat from her forehead. “Sorry
I just wanted to kiss you. I didn’t mean for anything else to happen.”
Jessica had to admit that she liked their exchange earlier, yet for some reason, she pushed him away. How conflicting.
At that moment, she recalled Elsa’s remarks about Zachary’s experience in bed. Blood rushed

to her cheeks.
It wasn’t until much later that Jessica finally realized she had been right. Indeed, he really knew what he was doing.
By day, he was composed, refined, the picture of calm elegance. By night, however, all that carefully restrained energy cracked wide open.
Underneath, he was still the wild, headstrong young man he used to be–commanding, intense, and unrestrained. Every move of his was laced with a quiet ferocity that was both thrilling and terrifying.

Moments later, Zachary slowly sat up. He turned away, quietly fastening the buttons on his shirt, which she hadn’t even realized had come undone.
“Just…” Jessica sat up and carefully said, “Give me some time.”
“Of course.”
She hurriedly pulled her disheveled clothes together, slipped on her pants, and rushed into the
bathroom.
“Girl, are you seriously still hesitating over a man that hot?” she silently reprimanded herself in the mirror. “He said it was all his idea, but let’s be honest–he was just saving your pride! You were the one who made the first move, and he still took accountability!”
“He’s rich, hot, and experienced. What more do you want? You’re married! Stuff like this is only a matter of time anyway!”
One thought after another bubbled up, trying to calm her nerves. Then, she comforted herself by thinking, “At least he’s nothing like Derrick, that walking red flag.”
Jessica took a heavy breath, like she had finally made up her mind. Unbuttoning the third button on her shirt, she exposed the soft curve of her pale collarbone and awkwardly straightened herself.
“Screw it. Let’s just do it.”
Just as she was ready to charge forward like a brave soldier, a sudden warmth flooded down her body. Seriously? Her period came now?
She stepped out of the bathroom awkwardly and flicked on the room light.
Zachary was already lying on the bed, scrolling through his phone. She opened up a cabinet, but couldn’t find the item she needed.
“What are you searching for?” he asked, putting down his phone.
“Well…” she stuttered, closing the cabinet door. “My period came…”

“So late, at this hour?”
What an innocent, dumb man.
After two seconds of silence, Zachary belatedly realized what he had to do and quickly got off the bed. He had forgotten to pack feminine hygiene items for this trip.
“I’ll go… buy some.”
He put on his coat without bothering to change out of his loungewear and left the suite.
