Chapter 49
Darrell nodded. “Yes. We’re here for some fun.”
“Enjoy yourselves, then,” Lucius replied.
“I appreciate it.”
“No problem.”
After the brief, polite exchange, Darrell wrapped an arm around the waist of the woman at his side. “We’ll get going now. See you around.”
Lucius gave a slight nod and watched them leave.
As Darrell’s date brushed past Valerie, she shot the latter a meaningful glance, while Valerie responded with an equally cryptic smile.
Having just ended his call, Kieran rushed over and said, “Something urgent came up, so I have to leave tonight. I can’t give you a ride back now, Val.”
“Go ahead,” Valerie said, waving him off.
With a quick goodbye, he turned and rushed away without looking back.
After that, Noah immediately stepped up and offered, “Where do you live, Ms. Collins? I can take you home.”
But Lucius expressionlessly stepped forward, his words dampening Noah’s enthusiasm. “You can’t drive because you’ve been drinking.”
His eyes flicked to Valerie, as if silently declaring to take her home.
After being humiliated all evening, Sonia quickly grabbed his arm and asked, “Can I get a ride, Mr. White? I lost an earring in your car, and it was a birthday gift from my mom, which means
a lot to me.‘
At the same time, Valerie waved to the group, saying, “I’ve got plans, so I have to get going.”
Lucius narrowed his eyes and reminded her, “It’s too late for a woman to be going out alone.”
Though it wasn’t the dead of night, it was still quite late,
Valerie habitually put on her face mask. “Some appointments can’t be missed. Goodbye, everyone.”
As she walked away, Lucius‘ expression darkened dangerously. Sonia, who had caught the whole thing, was surprised that Lucius, who’d always been composed and unreadable, was visibly upset because of Valerie.

“Let’s go, Mr. White.” She gave him a pleading look that begged for his comfort, as if reminding him she’d suffered enough tonight.
His expression was cold as he said, “Your earring isn’t in my car. I’ll have someone give you a ride home later.”
Seeing her expression fall, Noah, watching the entire scene on the sidelines, thought she looked like a discarded clown.
Skyler was the person Valerie had plans to meet. Seven days had elapsed in a blink.
Just as Valerie had said, Jay, who’d been waiting to die in the ICU, showed improvement after taking the miracle drug. He was even moved to a regular ward, and the doctors called it a medical miracle.
Skyler believed Jay had cheated death and was destined for better days ahead. But within a week, Jay was announced to be in critical condition again.
Valerie hadn’t lied–the drug’s effects lasted a week at most.
Desperate to save Jay, Skyler had no choice but to meet Valerie for a second negotiation. They met at a Carcosian restaurant owned by Woodward Group, in a private room that Skyler often used to entertain clients.
To please Valerie, he had the chef prepare a lavish dinner.
“The drug you gave me worked very well, Val. Jay’s still alive, and I asked you here for just one reason I hope you can introduce me to that miracle doctor.”
Once he got in touch with the miracle doctor, Valerie would outlive her value.
She hadn’t eaten much earlier at The Golden Chalice and just had some fruit. So now, she was hungry and naturally wouldn’t turn down a free meal.
At Skyler’s request, she smiled. “The miracle doctor constantly travels and never stays in one place for too long. Unless they come to me on their own, there’s no way I can track them down.
