Chapter 46
Of course. With a temper like Valerie’s, there was no way she’d ever let Sonia get away with trying to sabotage her in secret.
So this was the trap she had laid.
Kieran finally realized why Magnus once said Valerie was the best at playing devious little
tricks.
Noah, who’d been compelled to call every man in the room “Daddy“, reminded Sonia, “Let’s be clear that if you join the game, you must stick to the rules.”
As the owner of The Golden Chalice, Lucius hadn’t checked what was hidden in the mystery boxes, but he knew the staff would never plant something that involved kneeling or bowing.
He studied Valerie thoughtfully, while she twirled her pen as usual.
Sonia tugged lightly at Lucius‘ sleeve and said, “Mr. White, should I really kneel to her?”
Rumors were going around that she was his lover, so surely he wouldn’t want her on her knees before Valerie in front of everyone.
He glanced at her and said, “Noah called each of us ‘Daddy,‘ Dale downed a whole bottle of wine, and Ms. Zinger barked like a dog. Do you think you get to skip yours?”
His implication was clear–he wasn’t going to protect anyone.
So, under everyone’s gaze, Sonia dropped to her knees. Valerie sat with such unshakable poise that in that moment, Sonia did look like a maid groveling at a queen’s feet.
Even Noah couldn’t help but wonder how someone with such a powerful presence could be the same country bumpkin everyone assumed she was.
Off to the side, Kieran stirred the pot and added, “Don’t forget the line, Ms. Woodward. You still owe her a ‘My Queen.“”
Grinding her teeth in hatred, Sonia forced the words out. “My Queen.”
Valerie nudged her chin upward with the tip of her shoe. “A maid who dares speak to her lady with that tone deserves at least 30 whips.”
Kneeling on the floor, Sonia had never felt more humiliated. She turned to Lucius pleadingly, but he leisurely crossed his legs and ignored her shame.
Kieran idly turned the string of beads on his wrist, enjoying the spectacle.
Swirling his glass of red wine, Noah couldn’t help sneaking glances at Valerie. Her mix of

dominance and unpredictability had captured his attention.

When Sonia couldn’t take the humiliation anymore, she tried to stand, only for Valerie to shove her back down before she could make a move. “Ms. Woodward, it’s clearly stated on the note that you must be submissive and respectful.”
Suppressing her rage, Sonia hissed, “What more do you want?”
Valerie’s foot went to her shoulder. “A maid who talks back to her lady is a bad maid.”
“You’re taking this too far, Valerie,” Naomi said when she finally decided she couldn’t take it
anymore.
Valerie shot her a look. “It’s just a game. Can’t you handle it?”
The retort left Naomi speechless. She turned to Dale for backup, but he was already passed out drunk.
Seeing Sonia’s dignity crushed, Lucius felt a flicker of pity and spoke up. “Since it’s just a game, perhaps that’s enough, Ms. Collins.
“Oh, so you do feel sorry for her. Just say it, Mr. White. I’ll give you that much respect,” Valerie replied as she feigned a look of realization.
When Lucius stayed silent, she grabbed Sonia and whispered at a volume only the two of them could hear, “Next time you try a sneak attack, think twice about the consequences. Everyone who knows me knows that I have a terrible temper.”
It was the worst day of Sonia’s life. Not only had she lost dignity in front of Valerie, but she’d also turned into a laughingstock.
After the warning, Sonia eagerly shoved the large container at Valerie. “Your turn.”
She wouldn’t be the only one humiliated tonight. She had to see Valerie make a fool of herself,
too.
