“Not long ago, something else caused a huge stir at the hospital in Tesrainea,” Wendy went on.
Sharon, seeing how rarely Wendy looked this delighted after their horrifying experience, humored her with interest.
“What happened?”
“They say the same assassin who shot Jamie managed to slip past the hospital’s tight security and launched a second assassination attempt…”
Sharon’s brow furrowed. “A second attempt?”
“Yes.” Wendy nodded, her voice quickening. “He disguised himself as a doctor or nurse and stabbed Jamie once more.”
This wasn’t gossip off the trending searches-Carter had used other channels to obtain the information. Jamie’s attack wasn’t a trivial matter; they couldn’t risk letting outsiders know too much. 1
After all, Jamie had made plenty of enemies. If word spread, his rivals might seize the chance to finish him off.
Wendy sighed. “Ugh. The guy’s clinging to life like a cockroach. Even after all that, he’s still breathing. Honestly, I wonder if the assassin meant to let him live. After surviving two attempts, there’s no way Jamie’s body is bouncing back. He’ll probably be left weak and sickly. And with all the enemies he’s made? Being the head of the Walton family isn’t going to be a walk in the park
from here on out.
“Karma always comes around. At the very least, it feels like we finally got a little bit of justice.”
Sharon, however, didn’t share her joy. Instead, a contemplative look clouded her face.
Wendy noticed the shift. “Sharon, what is it? Did something occur to you?”
“Don’t you think it’s too much of a coincidence?”
“A coincidence?”
“We were just attacked, and now, Jamie is getting attacked.” Sharon fixed her gaze on Wendy. “What if someone close to us… is avenging us?”
Wendy froze. Against her will, a face surfaced in her mind. She blurted, “Julliard!” 2
Sharon’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Why him?”
Wendy explained, “These past few days, he’s seemed busy all the time. Even when he shows up, he barely stays before leaving
again.”
She hesitated, then added, “And lately, he hasn’t been quite himself. I think he blames himself for your abduction.”
Wendy had seen it clearly-Julliard’s guilt and regret.
After all, Sharon had been kidnapped while preparing medicinal meals for him.
Sharon fell silent for a few moments. “It wasn’t his fault.” 1
If not for Julliard’s protection, she might have fallen into Jamie’s hands long ago. 1
Wendy nodded. She knew he had suffered severe injuries defending Sharon. He had already done everything he could.
After chatting briefly, Wendy stood. “I’ll go get Uriah to give you a checkup and let Carter and Xavier know you’re awake. They’re still here at the hospital.”
Thomas had left early to settle unfinished business.

Julliard had come that morning, but after finding Sharon still unconscious, he’d gone back to work.
