Chapter 30

Lucius was utterly speechless.

It was true that there were no other guest rooms in the house. When he first bought this villa, he’d never intended to host outsiders, except for housekeepers who had their own quarters.

Refusing to waste time on pointless bickering, Valerie said, “It’s late now. Let’s get some sleep.

But with an invited presence in what had always been his private space, Lucius couldn’t possibly fall asleep.

Instead, he leaned in and said, “If we’re going to share the same bed every night from now on, I think we need a serious talk. After all, you can’t sleep in my bed as you wish.”

The bulk of his towering frame blotted out half the light from the ceiling lamp, and his imposing presence nearly suffocated Valerie.

“What do you want to talk about?” she asked.

He pulled up a chair and sat facing her, lazily crossing his long legs. “You,” he spat.

“Didn’t Keane compile a file on me for you?”

“There are some things I prefer to hear directly from you,” Lucius firmly insisted.

“Is there anything the great Mr. White can’t dig up for himself?”

He reached out and pulled her back into the space she’d tried to retreat from, his eyes flashing dangerously. “I don’t tolerate secrets from someone sharing my bed.”

They were so close that they could hear each other’s breaths. For a moment, Valerie looked like a kitten cornered by him, a dangerous predator.

A flicker of fear appeared in her eyes. When she spoke, her voice had softened. “I don’t know what more you want to hear. I’ve told you everything, and I wouldn’t dare hide anything from

you.

“Honestly, I’m just a country bumpkin who’s never seen much of the world. When I first stepped into your villa, I was totally stunned.”

She put on an exaggerated expression and continued, “I was amazed by how enormous the place was, and the bed was impossibly soft. My husband turned out to be a man so unreasonably handsome and incredibly wealthy.

“I was basically screaming to myself, ‘God, Valerie Collins, how did you get so lucky’?”

Under his astonished gaze, she continued her dramatic performance. “I may seem calm, but I’m panicking inside. I grew up in the countryside. We were so poor that we could barely afford instant pasta.

“Suddenly, I was in this big city surrounded by beautiful and polished people, every one of them was born into privileged families. Then there’s me, whose clothes and shoes cost less than five dollars.

“Can you imagine how many pep talks I had to give myself just to form a full sentence in front of a big shot like you?”

As her words grew increasingly absurd, Lucius cut her off and snapped, “Enough!”

Instantly, Valerie’s playful, dramatic act slipped away, and she slid back into her calm, composed self. “I showed you my true self from our first meeting, so what else do you want to know?

“Is a poor country bumpkin not allowed to attend Arcton University? Or are you just worried that I’ll contaminate your expensive bed?”

Without giving him the chance to speak, she grabbed his tie and pushed him onto the bed. Her knee pressed him down by the abdomen as she began ruthlessly tearing his shirt open.

Pinned beneath her, Lucius narrowed his eyes. “What are you doing?”

A mischievous smile played on Valerie’s lips as Lucifer draped around her neck like a dark accessory, adding a wicked charm.

Her slender fingers trailed from his chest to his abdomen, deftly undoing his belt.

Lucius could feel his heart racing as she leaned in and whispered in his ear, “Let’s have a baby.” A baby?
