Chapter 28

“I can’t say for certain if Phantom Healer exists, but King K is real. Everyone knows of Kieran Holt, right?”

Lucius looked up. “Are you talking about that flamboyant young master from the mystic arts

world?”

For centuries, wealthy families and the mystic arts community had walked hand in hand, each feeding the other’s power. Gustavo, who’d lived past a hundred years old, had once been Melvin’s personal astrologer.

The mystic art world was divided into countless schools.

Due to his age, Gustavo had long since been thinking about withdrawing from the public eye, while Kieran Holt emerged as a rising star. Though young, he had a highly respected status in Windmere.

Noah explained, “Years ago, King K founded K Net on a whim and offered paid solutions to difficult problems. Since Kieran was King K’s first client, we could reach King K through him.”

Noah’s idea gave Lucius a flicker of hope. If Kieran could lead him to the elusive Phantom

Healer, he didn’t mind taking a detour.

“Noah, can you reach Kieran?”

Noah clapped Lucius’ shoulder and said reassuringly, “I’ll set up a meeting when the time is

right.”

Before the gathering ended, Lucius found an excuse to leave early. Stepping outside, he checked his watch and noticed that it was 10:30 pm.

Rain poured heavily, accompanied by occasional lightning and thunder rolling overhead. His bodyguard, Silas, followed closely, holding a large umbrella as he escorted Lucius to the car.

A sweet voice called out from not far away, “Mr. White.”

Looking over, Lucius saw Sonia in a knee-length dress, standing under a shelter with a small group of friends.

“My driver’s car broke down halfway through. Would it be too much trouble to ask for a ride?”

Lucius’ eyes fell on her face, and Noah’s words rang in his mind. “Sonia’s eyes look so much like hers.”

Upon a closer look now, he had to admit that there was a resemblance.

After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. “Get in.”

So, under the envious stares of her companions, Sonia climbed into Lucius’ spacious,

comfortable car.

As they drove off, she explained, “It was my best friend’s birthday party tonight. We didn’t expect the rain to hit just as it ended, and all the club’s cars were taken. I’d be soaked if I

hadn’t run into you.”

The air-conditioned interior carried a faint scent of cologne. To Sonia, this scent belonged uniquely to Lucius and never failed to make her heart flutter.

He casually passed her a pack of tissues. “Dry off.”

“Thank you, Mr. White.” She beamed in delight.

Her fingers brushed against his as she took it, and the fleeting contact made her heart burn. She frantically tried to hide her nervousness and subtly moved closer to him.

If only the car would hit a bump. She’d then have an excuse to fall into his arms.

But Silas never gave her the chance. Even in the heavy rain, he drove flawlessly.

Sonia asked softly, “Did you have a gathering at The Golden Chalice tonight, too?”

Lucius gave an indifferent hum. In his mind, Valerie’s face surfaced, and he reckoned she’d probably be asleep by now.

The idea of an intruder suddenly occupying his private space unsettled him, yet he felt a strange curiosity about what was to come.

Unaware of his thoughts, Sonia fell silent after his brief response, leaving the atmosphere in the car oddly tense.
