Chapter 27
Back in the living room, the food was already being reheated.
Zachary carried all the clothes that Jessica had bought upstairs, and Jessica followed behind him with the flowers in her hands.
Staring at his broad shoulders and narrow waist, her face burned red.
She had to admit that his body was flawless. He had perfect abs, though she no longer remembered how many of them were perfectly defined. In any case, there were many, and they were firm, smooth, and elastic…
Jessica pressed her forehead, forcing herself not to recall what had happened that night.
Back in the room, Zachary helped her put away all her clothes in the wardrobe, including her
underwear.
It wasn’t until later, when Jessica placed the tulips in the vase in the study, which had never held flowers before, that she remembered she had bought new lingerie.
She rushed back into the dressing room, only to find he had already neatly put everything
away.
“Are you hungry?” Zachary walked toward her.
“A little.” She quickly turned around and walked out of the closet.
Zachary said, “Your bad habit of not eating on time needs to change.”
“Okay.” Jessica.coul

eats you so well. He was waiting for you outside the whole time, and he didn’t
ke a single bite of the food,” Mary whispered into her ear.
As Jessica dried her hands, she looked toward Zachary.
He was off to the side, taking a call and pacing around casually. At that moment, his gaze happened to meet hers. They both looked away quickly.
“Did
you
drink the milk today?” Zachary put several pieces of meat on her plate.
“I did, thank you,” Jessica replied.
Their interaction was stiff and formal, far from that of a married couple. It felt more like they were merely completing daily quests in a game.
“Turn off your alarm tonight, there’s no need to wake up so early tomorrow. We’ll head out around 10:30 pm tomorrow,” Zachary said.
Jessica was a little confused as she tried to figure out what she meant. “You’re going too?”
“Didn’t you look at the itinerary?” Zachary looked up at her. His gaze made Jessica shudder a
bit.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Jones.” She was so nervous that she was about to get tongue-tied. If they were at the office, she’d probably be scolded to death.
“It’s fine. There’s no need to check. Just follow me when the time comes.” Zachary finished chewing the bite in his mouth, looking like he was lost in thought.
Jessica exhaled, feeling as though she had just gotten off work, only to return home and still be on the clock. Wouldn’t this leave him with a bad impression of her?
Zachary set down his cutlery and suddenly remembered something, saying, “Derrick is still in the hospital, but the police have had the matter suppressed. There are no records.”
Jessica shivered slightly, and her knuckles whitened as she gripped her cutlery. She figured
that someone powerful must have been behind it to be able to bail Derrick out like that.
“Did you offend someone?” Zachary’s gaze was cold and sharp.
Jessica didn’t dare meet his eyes. A few days ago, she had wanted to tell him everything, but Zachary hadn’t given her the chance, so she had kept silent.
Now that he asked, she didn’t hide it and explained everything in detail.
Zachary smiled. It was rare for him to smile in such a situation.
“What are you smiling at?” Jessica asked suspiciously.
He licked his lip and said, “That’s a neat little trick. You killed two birds with one stone and even used someone else to do it for you. I have to say that I’m impressed.
Zachary definitely hadn’t expected Jessica to pull something like this. He had thought she was only the type to hold her ground in arguments, not someone who could defend herself so well.
He couldn’t help but admire her. For a moment, he felt like his gamble on her was paying off handsomely.
“Is that so?” Jessica said.
She had been a little frightened and thought that he might get angry because she had dragged
him into trouble. “You don’t think I…”
