Chapter 148 Someone Who Loves You and Someone Who Doesn’t 

“Are you pregnant, Chloe?” Ethan looked at Chloe. 

“I’m not-” Chloe began, but Ethan had already grabbed Brian by the collar before she could finish speaking. 

“Brian Steele, how could you be so reckless with her? What kind of despicable tricks did you 

use?” Ethan roared. 

If Chloe really was pregnant, wouldn’t that mean that Brian had already crossed the line with her before they’d left Yarfdale? As for them dating–had she been forced into it? 

Ethan’s mind immediately filled with thoughts of such a possibility. 

Brian returned to his senses and met Ethan’s furious gaze. “If Chloe’s really pregnant with my child, then she would’ve become pregnant of her own volition. You shouldn’t be sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, Mr. Hughes.” 

“What did you just say?” Ethan grew even more furious. 

“Chloe and I are dating. You’re nothing more than a brotherly figure to her, Mr. Hughes. Don’t forget that,” Brian snapped. 

Ethan immediately balled his hands into fists. The two men then began fighting in the private 

room. 

Chloe was getting frustrated by now. “Guys, stop it!” 

Brian knew she wasn’t pregnant at all, and yet here he was, getting caught up in Ethan’s 

accusations. 

“Are you really pregnant, Chloe? When did you find out? Regardless, I’m going to be the baby’s godmother, okay?” Lena added curiously from the side. 

Lena’s words only made Ethan put more force into his punches. 

Chloe glanced at Lena, who’d just added fuel to the burning fire, all while still looking 

innocent. 

“I’m not pregnant!” Chloe cried. She got to her feet and marched over to Ethan and Brian, who were in a full–on brawl and placed a hand on both of their chests to stop them from fighting. 

Afraid that they might hurt her, Brian and Ethan both stopped hitting one another. 

“Are you guys done with your stupid fight? I’m not pregnant. It’s just my stomach acting up again. Some antacids will do the trick. Besides-” Chloe paused before glaring at Brian and

Ethan. “The two of you don’t need to get into a fight even if I really was pregnant.

“I’m not some weak, helpless woman. No one can force me to get pregnant if I don’t want to. If I really were pregnant, then it would only be because I wanted to be!” 

Her words made Ethan’s and Brian’s expressions shift several times. 

“That’s enough. Why don’t we continue enjoying our dinner?” Lena quickly chimed in to dissipate the awkward tension in the air. 

Only then did the four start eating once again. 

Once dinner was over, Brian said to Chloe, “Let’s go to the hospital later.” 

“Are you feeling unwell?” Chloe thought Brian was still suffering side effects from the perfume incident. 

“We need to get your stomach checked since you’re feeling unwell,” Brian said. 

“No, it’s fine. I’ll just take some antacids-” 

“Let’s just go and do a quick checkup,” Brian said firmly, cutting Chloe off. 

“Why don’t you just get yourself checked up on at the hospital, Chloe? It’ll help ease our worries more than it would if you just bought some antacids from the pharmacy,” Lena added. 

“Alright then.” Chloe nodded. 

“I’ll-” Ethan was about to say that he would accompany Chloe when Lena tugged him firmly. 

“I happen to be dealing with some legal matters at work that I need your help with. Let’s talk about it after this!” Lena said. 

Ethan shot Lena a look but said nothing else in the end. 

Once Brian and Chloe had left the private room, Ethan turned to Lena. “You don’t need my help for any ‘legal matters‘, do you?” 

Lena smiled. “How smart of you. Why were you trying to be the third wheel between those two? Wouldn’t that just cause you more trouble?” 

Ethan’s lips pulled into a tight line. He suddenly asked, “When did you find out that they were dating?” 

“I often spoke to Chloe on the phone and figured it out on my own,” Lena said. 

“When exactly was this?” Ethan asked. 

“Around last month…” 

Ethan’s expression darkened upon hearing this. “Why didn’t you tell me about it then?”

Lena raised an eyebrow. “I don’t need to tell the whole world who my best friend is dating, do 

1?” 

“But you know how I feel about her-” 

“Ethan!” Lena cut him off right away. “No matter how you feel about Chloe, the fact is that she likes Brian and is dating him.” 

Ethan stiffened instantly. A bitter smile curved on his lips a moment later. “Was I too late again?” 

Lena sighed. Who would have expected to see Corvessia’s tyrant looking so pained and upset right now? 

“Things are like that sometimes when it comes to love. Who could’ve guessed that Chloe would’ve ended up dating Brian?” Lena said. 

Ethan looked down at his empty palm. “Yeah. Who would’ve guessed…” 

He’d wanted so badly to win Chloe over, yet he’d ended up with nothing in the end. 

Chloe and Brian went to the hospital, where Chloe was prescribed some antacids. 

Once they left the building, Brian asked with a serious look on his face, “Why didn’t you tell me you had stomach issues like this before?” 

“It wasn’t a big deal. I used to be in the military, after all. You don’t leave a place like that without suffering some side effects. Why? Do you mind?” 

“Yes, I do,” Brian replied, holding tightly onto Chloe’s hand. “I want you to be okay and not suffer any sort of illness. From now on, I’ll make sure you have a proper diet so your stomach is in good condition again.” 

Chloe smiled when she saw how worried and serious Brian was about this matter. 

Her stomach issues had flared up a couple times back when she’d been helping Curtis set up his business. She’d even gone to the ER in the middle of the night when it got worse. But Curtis hadn’t cared at all. All he’d cared about was whether the proposals were done and contracts were signed. 

Even though Curtis had claimed that the company was so important to him because it could help him give her a better life, the difference between someone who loved you and didn’t was still very obvious at the end of the day. 

Meanwhile, Lena had accompanied Ethan to a nearby bar for drinks. She didn’t trust Ethan to drink alone right now given the terrible mood he was in. So she’d figured she might as well

When she saw how drunk Ethan was, she said, “Get up from your seat. I’ll go and find a cab to take you home.” 

Lena had also had a few drinks herself, so it wouldn’t be good for her to drive Ethan back. 

“Home… Yeah… I need to go home now. I’ll… I’ll have someone drive me back now.” Ethan took out his phone as he spoke before making a call. “I had too much to drink… I’m at the bar right beside your office. Come and take me home.” 

Ethan then ended the call before downing yet another glass of wine. 

“Enough with the drinks. You’ll end up in the hospital if you keep drinking like that,” Lena 

said. 

“Don’t worry. I-” Without warning, Ethan doubled over and threw up. 

Lena quickly dodged the line of fire. Though she was lucky enough not to get anything on her, the same couldn’t be said about the couch they were on. 

Ethan’s clothes had been splattered with bits too, but he just passed out the next instant, his head lolling to the side. 

Lena studied her current situation. 

Had Ethan really just blacked out from being too drunk? But there were vomit stains on his 

shirt! 

Lena carefully dragged Ethan to the other side of the couch just in case. She then undid his coat, which had vomit stains on it and peeled it off his body. 

Since he was wearing a button–up shirt underneath, she thought of undoing some of the buttons so he could breathe more easily. 

But the moment she undid the second button, the door to the private room swung open, and a cold voice rang out. 

“Oh? So you’ve set your sights on Ethan now, huh? Are you planning to take advantage of him the way you did with me years ago?”
