Chapter 145 

“Mommy, does it hurt a lot?” Selena looked concerned as she grabbed a piece of tissue to wipe the tears that had rolled down Valeria’s cheeks. 

Valeria’s eyes were filled with tears as she replied, “It doesn’t hurt.” 

“Liar, liar, pants on fire!” 

At that moment, Potato, who had been lying by the bedside, began to shake his tail and barked. 

With tears in her eyes, Valeria couldn’t help but laugh. She had always been careful not to cry in front of Selena, but that night, she could not hold her tears in. 

Just as Selena was about to sleep, Valeria asked, “Lenny, do you want to go back to the Verdanci District to stay with your great–grandma?” 

Valeria could buy a house there with a loan since the mortgages there weren’t too expensive. 

Then, she could bring Margaret over to stay with them. 

After giving Valeria’s suggestion some serious thought, Selena answered, “Sure. I’m willing to go wherever you go, Mommy. I just want to be with you forever.” 

Valeria turned off the bedside lamp and buried her face in the crook of Selena’s warm shoulders. Under the night light, it was obvious that there were tears in Valeria’s eyes. 

At that moment, Valeria no longer cared if Sebastian had ever liked her or not because she finally had someone who loved and cared about her deeply, and that someone was her precious daughter, Selena. 

When Valeria woke up the next day, she noticed Sebastian had texted her last night at around 2: 10 am. She had not waited for him to return and had decided to bring Selena back home 

instead. 

Since it was already 7:30 am, Valeria chose not to reply to his message. After all, all messages usually had a time limit for a reply, and it was clear she had long passed the time limit to send him a reply. 

Valeria arrived at the company looking exhausted because she had not slept well the night before. In the afternoon, her company’s vice director, Kayla Mendes, came to talk to her. 

Kayla proceeded to ask Valeria to accompany her to a clothing fabric exhibition at Broburgh City. Nathan was actually Kayla’s senior, and they had actually gone to the same university. 

He had been the one to promote Kayla to her current position.

Nathan would only come to the office about once a week, and Kayla was usually the one who handled most of the company’s affairs. 

After all, the small design company was just one of Nathan’s many investments. 

Even Sabrina would only come to the office about two to three times a week. Sometimes, she’d just stay in her office for a few minutes and sign a few agreements before leaving. 

Sabrina had probably spent more time with her friends than she did at the company. 

Kayla was 29 years old that year, and she wore a pair of rimless glasses. She had monolids, fair skin, and she was extremely rational. 

Although her attitude was a little cold, she was efficient and barely allowed things to drag on. 

As she walked forward, Kayla noticed Valeria’s hesitance. 

So, Kayla said, “I understand that your daughter’s sick. However, the year–end review has just ended, and you’re the one who received the highest bonus this year. So, attending such events is within your job scope. If you apply for leave and I ask someone to take your role, even people who you’re close with would feel resentment toward you, even Queenie. 

“During the year–end review, your group was the first group, and it contained six people, excluding you. Among them, three people were adamant on voting against you. However, Mr. Ford had told me about your capabilities in advance, so those votes against you didn’t really affect the outcome of things.” 

“I understand, Ms. Mendes,” Valeria answered with a nod. 

Valeria understood that after excluding herself from her group, there were only five people left. Among those five people, three had voted against her. 

“It’s good that you understand. The train takes off at eight o’clock tomorrow morning. I’ll send a more detailed itinerary later,” Kayla said. 

When Valeria returned to her desk, there was a cup of hot chocolate from Queenie. 

Looking at her phone, she noticed Lindsey had also messaged her to ask how Selena was doing and said she wanted to visit Selena that night. 

As for her three other colleagues, one of them was a new intern, who would smile brightly and greet her respectfully, whenever he saw her. 

Her fourth colleague was someone who she’d been working with for quite some time, while Valeria’s last colleague was a young lady who had just finished her internship. 

That young lady had once cried after being reprimanded by Sabrina for causing a big problem, and Valeria had ended up being the one to help her out.
