Loving DAD 904

Loving DAD 904

Chapter 904

Sharon’s heart sank. She quickly asked, “What happened?”

Could it be Jamie’s doing?

But it had only been a few days-how could Carter already be in trouble?

Carter was always cautious, always guarded against Jamie. There was no reason he should fall so easily into a trap.

Simon’s voice came through the line. “This morning, Mr. Biggs’s sister, Denise, was cornered by a group of men. She called Mr. Biggs for help. When he rushed to her rescue, he was ambushed by assassins and gravely wounded.”

He exhaled a long sigh. “Those killers must have been waiting there for a long time. Denise was only bait. Their real target was Mr. Biggs.”

Even so, it was strange that someone as careful as Carter would end up so badly injured.

“Before he lost consciousness,” Simon added, “Mr. Biggs told me something. The reason I’m calling is to pass on his words.”

Sharon’s grip on the phone tightened involuntarily. “What did he say?”

“Mr. Biggs said,” Simon replied, “that there’s a traitor at his side.”

Sharon froze. Unbidden, an image of Julliard flashed in her mind.

All along, Julliard had helped her-passing on information, shielding her from Kelly and Nate’s traps and schemes. Kelly and Nate had suffered heavy losses because of him.

However, when Nate’s family ran into trouble, Julliard had been the first to step forward to help. That alone showed how much he valued his friendship with Carter and Nate.

Surely he wouldn’t betray Carter. Surely he wouldn’t put Carter’s life in danger.

Simon’s voice pulled her back. “Sharon, before this happened, Mr. Biggs left instructions. If he were ever incapacitated-or never woke again-he entrusted Theo to your care.

“Mr. Biggs has already made a will. All of his assets will go to you. The shares of the Biggs Group will also be transferred to your name, to serve as funds for raising Theo.”

It was no different from a final testament.

Sharon’s voice trembled. “How is Carter now? He… he’s not-”

“Sharon,”

Simon interrupted quickly, “Mr. Biggs is gravely injured and unconscious, but his life is not in danger. Please don’t worry. I’m only telling you this as a precaution, so you won’t

be caught unprepared.”

If Madeline found out that ninety percent of Carter’s wealth had been left to Sharon, there would be uproar. And if Carter truly didn’t make it, Sharon might still be in shock. If she wasn’t careful, she could easily fall into someone’s trap.

Hearing this, Sharon exhaled a tiny breath of relief. But almost at once, she said, “Carter and I are no longer husband and wife. There’s no need for his fortune to come to me. It should all go

to Theo.”

“Sharon,” Simon said firmly, “Theo is only five years old. If such a fortune were placed

directly in his hands, it would invite jealousy and danger, and he could never protect it. And if Mr. Biggs’s mom learns that Mr. Biggs left everything to Theo, she would never let Theo leave the Biggs family home.

“Giving it to you is the same as giving it to Theo. Mr. Biggs said no one in this world could ever love Theo more than you.”

Sharon’s eyes burned with sudden heat, emotions surging in her chest.

She no longer refused. “All right. I understand.”

Because Carter was right.

That kind of inheritance, in the hands of a child too young to stand on his own, would not be a blessing; it would be a curse.
