Chapter 902
Why was Sharon unharmed after Victoria had been hunted down and humiliated like that?
Jamie had intended to frighten her so completely she’d lose her mind-so she’d flee with her head bowed in shame.
But Sharon’s reaction had surprised him. She was steadier than most men. When he had leveled the gun at her, even many men wouldn’t have kept their composure the way she did.
Lex’s voice snapped him back. “She didn’t? You don’t mean she just… fainted in disgrace, do you?”
He’d seen Jamie’s methods before-how he toyed with people. A woman like Sharon in Jamie’s hands wouldn’t last five minutes.
Jamie wasn’t like those of them raised under Uriah’s influence. They rarely employed cruel, immoral means.
Jamie, however, had clawed his way toward the headship by any means necessary-his tactics were vicious enough that even people like him were reluctant to cross Jamie. He wasn’t a man of honor.
A miserable fate awaited any woman who earned Jamie’s contempt; anyone could imagine how bleak it would be. Because of Uriah’s standing, Lex couldn’t act directly. Letting Jamie dispose of the problem would also ease his own grudge.
If Sharon hadn’t lost control under Jamie’s gun, the most likely explanation would be that she simply passed out.
Lex sneered. “I thought she had some kind of backbone. Turns out she’s no better than the rest. Still dreaming she can replace Victoria-she should know her place.”
Before he could finish, Jamie cut him off. “She didn’t even flinch. It’s no wonder Victoria suffered so much at her hands.” 1
Lex blinked, startled. “You’re serious?”
“When I had the gun on her, she didn’t break. She didn’t beg,” Jamie said flatly. “She taunted me.”
Lex could hardly believe it. “Are you sure you didn’t misread the situation?”
He thought that since Jamie was unhinged, what he saw as a taunt could have just been desperate pleading.
Jamie wasn’t oblivious to the implication. He replied coldly, “I may have a bad attitude, but I am not stupid.”

Lex changed tack. “So, Sharon didn’t beg, didn’t confess, didn’t admit to anything?”
Jamie’s voice dropped to a hoarse whisper. “You want to know why I call her scheming? Because she somehow got Carter to take the fall for her.”
He repeated Carter’s story. As Lex listened, his brow furrowed. “If the Kalen family actually buys Carter’s version, that’s a serious problem.”
However much they disliked Sharon, she was still a Kalen. They had to consider Victoria’s feelings; they couldn’t just dispose of Sharon outright.
Jamie’s tone was flat and dangerous. “Even if we can’t make her disappear, teaching her a lesson is still on the table. Carter’s story might be full of holes, but without his help, this never would have blown up so fast. Sharon is the mastermind; Carter is her chief accomplice. To deal with her, we have to clip her wings first. And Carter is one of them.”
Lex’s eyelid twitched. “Jamie, you’re not thinking of going after Carter, are you? This is Zachemaine. And he’s not someone you can just strong-arm.”
Carter had the skills, the connections, and the cunning. Trying to outmaneuver him would be a dangerous game.
A grim smile touched Jamie’s lips. “They have a son, don’t they?”
Lex was silent for a moment before replying, “I’ve already looked into the boy’s whereabouts.”
