“I wouldn’t hurt Sharon. She’s Victoria’s sister,” Jamie said.
Though his words sounded reasonable, the faces of Richard and Rick darkened all the same.
Richard’s temper, in particular, flared with anger.
Jamie’s behavior was far too arrogant. He was brazenly disregarding them as though they
didn’t exist.
“Jamie,” Victoria spoke up. “This time, you really were in the wrong. Apologize to Sharon.”
If it had been anyone else, Jamie might have ignored the request. But since Victoria had spoken, he couldn’t simply dismiss her words.
He turned to Sharon. “Sharon, I’m sorry for frightening you just now. I only meant it as a joke.
Before Sharon could respond, Rick’s cold voice cut in. “Jamie, this is the Kalen family’s private affair. As an outsider, you’d best not interfere.”
He paused deliberately before continuing. “And since you’ve seen Victoria already, it’s time you left.”
Jamie’s sudden visit had already taken the father and son by surprise. But since he had come, it would have seemed inhospitable to drive him away. What they hadn’t expected was that he would actually draw a gun.
Sensing the growing tension, Victoria said, “Jamie, why don’t you head back for now? Dad and Rick still have matters to discuss with Sharon.”
Jamie did not press the issue. “Very well, I’ll go. If anything happens, call me at once. If anyone dares bully you…” His gaze swept slowly across each face in the room.
He let out a low chuckle. “No matter who it is, I’ll make them pay. Even if it’s your own family.

Richard and Rick’s expressions grew even darker.
To Jamie, no one mattered but Victoria. Not even her blood relatives. And that made one thing unmistakably clear-Jamie’s devotion to Victoria was absolute.
With that, he turned and left the Kalen estate.
The villa doors shut behind him. Jamie glanced back, a glint of cold steel flickering in his eyes.
On the way home, his phone rang. It was Lex.

“How is Victoria?”
“She’s no longer feverish,” Jamie replied, his face impassive. “But her body is still weak.”
Lex had wanted to visit Victoria himself, but after the recent scandals stirred up by the Malcolm family, Richard’s impression of him was abysmal. He had been turned away at the door without even a chance to step inside.
Knowing Jamie planned to visit, Lex had called instead, hoping for news. When he heard Victoria’s fever had broken, he finally breathed easier.
He was about to hang up when Jamie added suddenly, “I ran into Sharon today at the Kalen house.”
“Sharon?” Lex’s voice sharpened instantly, then turned cold.

Ordinary men, when staring down the barrel of a gun, often lost control of themselves. For a delicate woman like Sharon, her panic and humiliation should have been even more unbearable. Just the thought of it piqued Lex’s curiosity.
But to his surprise, Jamie answered flatly, “No.”
He held the phone tightly, his thin lips pressed into a hard line, displeasure radiating from him.
For all his arrogance and disregard for others, Jamie wasn’t reckless enough to truly pull the trigger inside the Kalen estate.
He had only intended to rattle Sharon-to expose her, to see her falter.
And yet, she hadn’t given him the reaction he wanted.
