Waiting 7

Chapter 7

Hayden took me to another jewelry shop. The moment we stepped in, the shop employees greeted us warmly.

He wrapped an arm around me and guided me to sit down while the employees brought out a wide array of rings and jewelry for me to try. I felt a bit embarrassed watching them busy themselves around us.

Hayden grabbed my hand and studied it. “Don’t worry. This store belongs to the Eclipse pack, which means it also belongs to you. You’re the boss, so you can try whatever you like.”

I was a little surprised, but he didn’t give me time to dwell on it. “I think this one looks good, and that one.

too.”

After saying that, he looked toward another employee. “Wasn’t there a new collection recently? Bring it out for her to have a look.”

I was dazzled by the endless choices. By the time we left, both of our hands were full of shopping bags.

As it was getting late, Hayden sent me back after we had dinner.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, my phone rang. When I answered it groggily, I heard Jeremy’s voice on the line. “Shirley, do you really have to go this far? Will you only be satisfied after ruining my entire life?”

His shouting left me baffled and even more annoyed with him. I hung up immediately and blocked his number.

It was only after scrolling through my push notifications that I realized what he was on about. It turned out that someone had leaked photos of Jeremy and Rebecca heading into a hotel after a class reunion, neither of them appearing to be drunk.

The leak also included complaints from wolves in Jeremy’s pack. They deemed him unfit for his position because of how he sided with Rebecca and allowed her to do as she pleased.

Although Jeremy tried his best to delete the articles, the gossip was already spreading like wildfire.

With a grín, I contacted Zachary’s Beta and sent him the two recordings that Rebecca had sent me.

With rival packs already eager to tear each other apart, they weren’t about to let such a convenient weapon go to waste. I was sure that many wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.

I, on the other hand, slept soundly. The next morning, I received a call from Hayden.

Before he could speak, I asked, “Were you behind the incident yesterday?”

Hayden smiled. “Did they really think that the Eclipse pack are pushovers, or that I can’t even protect my Luna? I held back because of you in the past. However, now that we’re already mates, who does he think

he is?

“I pursued you for five years, and you finally accepted me. Yet, they still referred to me as a stranger.”

I could only sigh at what he chose to get angry with. Still, I comforted him a little before heading off to wash up. There was a wedding dress to busy myself with today.

The atmosphere was tense in Jeremy’s marital home. He sat on the couch gloomily and stared at Rebecca without a word.

Rebecca stood several feet away while holding her waist gingerly. She was too afraid to sit and seemed

upset.

Since I had blocked his number the night before, he tried contacting me through different channels. However, he realized I had blocked all his social media accounts.

As he was no longer my mate, he couldn’t even sense my whereabouts anymore. That realization left him frustrated-and for the first time-afraid.

When Jeremy wanted to go and look for me, one of the pack’s Elders had summoned him back.

The Elder was now seated opposite him and looked at Shirley disdainfully.

The Elder finally spoke after a while. “Although you two are fated mates, the ceremony wasn’t held, and no blessing was given by the Moon Goddess.

“Thus, it’s better for her to give up on the pup. Given the current situation, the pup came at the worst possible time for our pack.”

Upon hearing that, Rebecca froze and glanced at Jeremy.

However, Jeremy didn’t seem like he was going to plead for her. In fact, he seemed relieved.

“Rebecca, we weren’t supposed to be together in the first place. That night and the pup was an accident. I’m sure you understand. Things have already blown so much that it’s starting to damage the pack’s reputation.

“Shirley is just upset with me right now. I’ll go and win her back. Once that’s done, you and I can go our separate ways.”

The Elder sneered. “Do you think it’s even possible to win her back?”

Jeremy shot to his feet and looked at the Elder seriously. “I’ll apologize to Shirley sincerely. The entire incident was my fault. I know I wronged her, but I can’t live without her. She’s my only mate and Luna, and this will never change.”

With that, he slumped back onto the couch as if all strength had drained from him.

“She’s furious right now. I don’t know how to make things right anymore.” His voice turned hoarse, and he seemed on the edge of crying.

This Alpha, once known for his decisiveness, cast his pride aside and sat with his face buried in his

hands.
