Chapter 131 A Panicked Sonya 

It took a while before Sonya asked blankly, “Live stream? You mean, when I was kidnapped, it was being streamed live?” 

“Yes,” Curtis said quietly. 

“How could that be? I didn’t see any streaming equipment. I…” The moment she thought about what she’d said after being kidnapped, Sonya’s expression changed drastically. 

She said, “Where’s my phone? Give me my phone. I need to see what was broadcast!” 

Curtis took out the phone that Sonya had dropped when she was kidnapped. She grabbed it and immediately began searching. 

Even though the kidnapper’s stream had already been shut down, the incident was trending hot online. Many people had clipped segments of the live stream and uploaded them online, so Sonya could easily 

find those videos. 

Sonya watched the clips of herself being beaten and begging in desperation. Her face turned deathly pale when she saw the part where she’d admitted to turning a blind eye and refusing to help the co–pilot. 

How could this be happening? 

She’d thought that only she and the kidnapper would hear what she said. 

But now, everyone would know about what she’d done. 

She scrolled through the comments beneath those posts crazily. Every single one was filled with scorn 

and abuse. 

“Some firefighting heroine! Disgusting!” 

“She’s basically a murderer!” 

“Can someone like her still be a captain? How did AeroQuest Airlines choose such trash? If they don’t fire her, I’ll never fly with AeroQuest again!” 

“If it weren’t for this kidnapping, we would never have known how fake she is! It’s a good thing she got 

kidnapped!” 

“She should get a taste of what it feels like to burn!” 

Seeing those comments, even Sonya’s hands trembled. 

Before this, everyone had been full of praise and flattery for her. She was used to being placed on a pedestal. 

But now, in just a few hours, everything had turned upside down.

“Yes, it’ll all be fine after some time!” Sonya repeated over and over, as though to comfort herself. 

As long as the storm passed, she would still be a celebrated captain. She could still live a good life. 

“Sonya, just rest for now. Don’t overthink it. I need to head to the police station since they need a 

statement,” Curtis said. 

But as he was about to leave, Sonya suddenly grabbed his hand. “Curtis, about those things I said in the videos, they weren’t true!” 

“What?” Curtis was stunned for a moment. 

“I mean, the part about me ignoring someone in danger. That wasn’t real, I only said it to placate him! Curtis, you believe me, right?” Sonya said frantically. 

Curtis now knew she was lying, so he remained silent for a long time. 

From her reaction during the live stream, she hadn’t looked like she was placating anyone at all. It had seemed more like she’d reached her breaking point and accidentally slipped up, blurting out the truth. 

When Sonya saw him remain silent, her expression turned uglier. “Do you not believe me?” 

“Sonya, even if you did something wrong in the past and didn’t save someone in need, I don’t have the right to judge you. I’ll still help you.” Curtis pursed his lips together, stepped forward, and held her hand. At that moment, it looked like he was making a silent vow. 

Yes, he would help her. After all, she’d saved his life, and she was the person he wanted to protect. 

However, Sonya suddenly shoved him away. “You don’t believe me! Curtis, I thought that even if the whole world doubted me, you’d still believe me. But now, you don’t believe me?” 

Curtis smiled bitterly. How could he possibly believe her? 

“Even if I did, would anyone else? You saw it just now. So many people online have already seen the live 

stream!” 

Sonya’s face turned paler. She gripped the sheets tightly and said stubbornly, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t care if no one else believes me. You’re the only one I care about!”

As soon as she said that, she saw guilt flash on Curtis’s face, just as she’d wanted. Sure enough, her 

threat had worked. 

Curtis apologized, “I’m sorry, Sonya. I misspoke earlier. I do believe you.” 

No matter what the truth was, he was already with her. Besides, she’d saved his life. 

Only then did the smile return to Sonya’s face. “I knew I didn’t choose the wrong man. Curtis, as long as you believe in me, I’ll face whatever comes, no matter what it is!” 

Curtis forced a smile, but deep down, he was filled with worry. After all, the troubles Sonya would face from now on would likely be far worse than she imagined.

AeroQuest Airlines also announced that Sonya was suspended. Whether she would be able to continue working as a captain would depend on the results of the investigations. 

Meanwhile, someone uploaded a video clip of the talk show interview, which had clearly been filmed by someone in the audience. 

It showed Sonya and Curtis publicly confirming their engagement. It also showed how Sonya had repeatedly claimed she’d flown the helicopter to rescue the trapped people, only to be exposed by the rescuers, who revealed she’d never even reached the site. 

The moment that video hit the internet, public outrage became even worse. Some even predicted that Green Tech’s stocks would plummet when the market opened the next day. 

“Chloe, it’s late. Aren’t you going to sleep?” A hand suddenly slid around Chloe’s waist. The next second, she was pulled into someone’s chest. 

Brian pressed his face against hers, nuzzling against her gently. His breath brushed her hair, making the moment extremely intimate.
