Chapter 129 Her Confession Went Live 

A sharp jolt of pain tore through Curtis‘ body. With his right hand still bound in bandages, he braced himself with his left, struggling to rise. 

But before he could get to his feet, Brian stepped forward and drove a kick squarely into his chest. 

Curtis hit the ground hard once more. 

“You won’t let Chloe go? Fine. Then I won’t let you go either!” Brian’s face twisted with vicious rage, as if he were ready to kill. 

A cold sweat broke out across Curtis‘ skin, as if his entire body had been plunged into icy water.. 

“Brian!” Chloe stepped forward and grabbed his arm. 

“What, are you going to protect this scum?” Brian snapped. 

“I’m not protecting him. I’m protecting you,” Chloe said. With so many people watching, she knew that if Brian actually lashed out at Curtis, it would turn into a full–blown scandal. 

Brian pressed his lips together and stared down at Curtis. “If you ever touch Chloe again, I swear on my 

life I won’t rest until you’re gone.” 

It was a promise of deadly consequences. 

The audience didn’t hear the words, but everyone on stage did. Their faces were etched with shock. Who would have thought that the powerful Brian Steele would make such a fierce vow for a woman? 

He’d said, “until you’re gone“. Those words revealed just how deeply Chloe was rooted in his heart. 

Curtis froze. The moment Brian spoke, it felt as though countless blades were aimed at him. He knew 

that if he moved so much, they would pierce into him. 

Chloe stared at Brian in shock. She’d always known he loved her and his every action made that clear. But she’d never imagined that his love for her ran this deep. 

A warmth bloomed in her chest, and if they hadn’t been surrounded by so many people, she would have kissed him right then and there. 

“Chloe, you’re only acting this way because Brian’s backing you up!” Curtis snapped, finally regaining his composure. “If Sonya gets hurt or even dies because of this, shouldn’t you feel at least a little guilty?” 

“You’re the one who should feel guilty first!” Chloe shot back without hesitation. “She’s your fiancee. If you don’t feel guilty, then why should I? How does that make any sense?” 

Curtis was left speechless. 

Chloe glanced up at the huge screen in the studio. “And besides, we don’t even know if Sonya is truly 

innocent in this kidnapping.” 

“Of course she is! She’s kind and would risk her life to save others. How could she have just left someone to die? There has to be an explanation!” Curtis shot back. 

“Is that so?” Chloe replied, her voice edged with sarcasm. 

That fleeting look of guilt on Sonya’s face when the recording had played had said it all. 

The audio the kidnapper had released was most likely genuine, and Sonya had probably refused to help that man in it. 

But was the kidnapper really set on burning her alive for revenge or was there something else driving him? 

On the screen, Sonya’s body shook violently, twisting as she screamed, “No… no! Who sent you to kidnap me? I can give you money! 

“I’m the daughter of the Miller family, and my fiance is loaded. You know Curtis from Green Tech? He’s a rising star in the tech world, and his company’s already public. He’s rich, and he loves me! He’ll give you whatever you want!” 

“Money? I don’t want money. You said your colleague was hallucinating from the burns when he called out to you. Now I want to see if you’ll hallucinate too. If you do… then I’ll believe you.” 

With that, he flicked a lighter, and a flame immediately sparked to life. 

Sonya’s body trembled more violently. If even a single spark touched the gasoline, the entire place would erupt into a sea of flames, and she would be burned alive. 

The memory of her colleague burning alive before her eyes, his agonized screams echoing in her ears, 

made her fear almost unbearable. 

“What’s wrong? Surprising that a murderer like you would be afraid too.” The kidnapper brought the lighter 

closer and closer to Sonya. 

Her face went pale. Watching the flame dance in front of her, she shut her eyes in terror. 

“I… I’m not a murderer. It wasn’t my fault…” 

“Not your fault?” The voice turned razor–sharp. “Can you really claim you weren’t right there when it happened? Sonya, he treated you so well. He guided you and mentored you sincerely. And this is how you repaid him? 

“Why didn’t you do anything when he was engulfed in flames, begging for your help? You could’ve grabbed the extinguisher. You could’ve tried to put it out.” 

“No, that’s not true! The fire was too intense! Even with an extinguisher, I couldn’t have saved him!” Sonya 

burst out. 

The air suddenly grew still, and the kidnapper fell silent. 

Sonya’s stomach dropped as she realized what she’d just admitted.

The cold laughter rang in Sonya’s ears. “I knew it! You were right there beside him! Why didn’t you grab a fire extinguisher? Why did you just stand there and watch him burn? Why? Why?” 

The furious accusations sent Sonya into a panic. 

“Because… the fire was too… too big! I… I didn’t dare get close! That’s why I ran. I didn’t mean to leave him! I was just… just terrified… Please, spare me. I’m begging you…”

Curtis. 

Just minutes ago, Curtis had been defending her, insisting that Sonya would never leave someone to die and that there had to be some kind of misunderstanding. 

Now, he stared at the screen in disbelief, his eyes wide with shock. 

This was the woman he’d always believed to be a hero, the one who soared fearlessly through the sky, the one who’d once dove into the river to save him. 

But in truth, she’d stood by and done nothing during the fire at Cloudrion, the very incident for which she’d received honor and recognition from the government. 

She’d stood by and watched her colleague burn alive. 

How could that be possible? 

Yet Sonya’s repeated pleas and her excuse that she’d simply been too afraid replayed on the screen, mocking the trust he’d placed in her.
