Chapter 117 Mr. Steele Made a Move 

Chloe turned and saw Sonya standing just a few steps behind her. 

“What are you saying?” Chloe exclaimed. 

“Did I hit a nerve? You look guilty!” Sonya pressed, her eyes sharp. “If it wasn’t you, then why were you 

looking up the news about the fire five years ago, and about my dead colleague, no less?” 

As Sonya spoke, she lunged for Chloe’s phone. 

Chloe sidestepped, leaving Sonya grasping at thin air. 

“What, just because I read an article, does it mean that I’m the one who sent that message to the 

reporters?” Chloe shot back with a sneer. 

“Who else would it be but you?” Sonya snapped. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense 

to her, and her tone grew all the more certain. 

“You’re the only one who has it out for me. You’re jealous I took Curtis from you. You knew I’d be here today, so you sent that message to smear my name, letting the reporters do your dirty work!” 

“Sonya, your imagination is really something. As for Curtis? You can have him. I dumped him a long time ago. Why on earth would I be jealous of you?” Chloe scoffed. 

“But look at you. You’re so worked up. If anyone saw this, they’d think everything you said on the stage 

was a lie and that the content of the message really is true.” 

“You-” Sonya’s expression shifted. “If you didn’t set me up, then hand over your phone to me. Let me 

check it!” 

In her mind, she was sure of it now. It had to be Chloe. 

After all, who else had a grudge against her? Right now, Chloe was the most likely suspect. 

On top of that, the timing was impeccable. There had been separate incidents–the news clip on the 

island, the time she received the text calling her a murderer, and now, this anonymous message to a 

reporter at the orphanage. 

And Chloe had been present every single time. 

What were the odds? 

“And why should I hand you my phone?” Chloe asked, laughing in disbelief. 

“If it’s not you, then why won’t you hand me your phone?” Sonya demanded. 

Chloe couldn’t be bothered to answer and turned away. 

But Sonya wasn’t about to let it go. She reached out again, trying to snatch the phone.

However, she was no match for Chloe. With a quick pivot and a hook of her foot, Chloe sent Sonyal sprawling onto the ground. 

“Sonya!” Curtis rushed over, hauling her up. Then, he glared at Chloe. “Chloe, that’s too much!” 

“Too much?” Chloe almost laughed at the absurdity. 

“I saw it with my own eyes! You tripped her!” Curtis raged. “Why do you hate Sonya so much that you’d 

hurt her like this?” 

“If you saw that, then why didn’t you see her trying to grab my phone?” Chloe shot back. “And if I really wanted to hurt her, do you think she’d get away with just a fall?” 

The color drained from both Curtis‘ and Sonya’s faces. 

They knew what Chloe was capable of. Curtis, a grown man, had once been sent flying by one of her kicks. If she’d truly meant to hurt Sonya, the outcome would have been brutal. 

“Chloe, if you’d just handed over your phone, I wouldn’t have tried to take it.” Sonya turned to Curtis and said, “I think Chloe’s the one who sent that message about the fire to the reporter. She’s trying to slander me. That’s why I wanted to check her phone!” 

“What?” Curtis was stunned, turning to Chloe. “It was you?” 

“Shouldn’t you have evidence before accusing someone? If Sonya claims that the message to the reporter is slander, isn’t accusing me without proof slander as well?” Chloe said coldly. 

Curtis faltered for a moment. “Sonya isn’t the type to lie about something like this.” 

Chloe burst into laughter, clearly irritated. “Think whatever you want. Just don’t regret it later.” 

Just as she was about to walk away and ignore the two of them, Curtis suddenly reached for her arm. 

Unfortunately, it was the one that was already injured. Chloe was a beat slower to react, and Curtis managed to grab hold of her arm. 

“Let go!” Chloe said coldly. 

“Then, hand over your phone and let us check it. Otherwise, I’ll call the police and say you’re the one who slandered Sonya!” Curtis threatened. 

Chloe’s eyes went ice–cold as she stared at him. “Whether you choose to believe Sonya or not is your business. I have no obligation to cooperate with you. I’ll say this one more time–let go.” 

“And if I don’t?” Curtis sneered, his fingers digging harder into her arm. 

Chloe raised her leg and kicked him squarely. With just one strike, she sent Curtis flying to the ground. He landed hard on the floor, looking completely humiliated. 

The commotion drew the attention of people nearby, and soon many eyes were fixed on them.

“What’s going on?” Brian had walked over without anyone noticing. He frowned as he looked at Chloe. 

“Nothing. It’s just a small matter,” Chloe said flatly. 

But Brian’s gaze dropped to her right arm. Through the light beige sleeve of her blouse, a dark red stain had begun to seep through right where her wound was. 

“Did your wound tear open?” Brian asked tensely. 

“It’s probably when Curtis grabbed my arm just now. It just needs to be cleaned and rebandaged when I get back. It’s nothing serious,” Chloe replied. 

To her, it was just a bit of blood. It was nothing worth fussing over. 

However, Brian’s expression turned dangerously dark. 

He turned toward Curtis, who was just pushing himself up from the ground. “You did this?” 

Humiliated after getting kicked down in public, Curtis was seething. He immediately snapped when he heard Brian’s words, “I suspected Chloe was the one who texted the reporter and slandered Sonya. I only wanted her to hand over her phone!” 

Brian’s eyes locked on Curtis as he walked toward him, each step carrying a heavy, suffocating pressure. The look in his dark eyes was sharp and merciless, sending a chill crawling down Curtis‘ spine. 

“You grabbed Chloe’s arm with your right hand, didn’t you?” Brian said, glancing at Curtis‘ hand. 

There were still traces of blood on his fingertips. 

It was only then that Curtis noticed the stains. “I didn’t know her arm was injured! If she’d just handed over her phone, then I-” 

“She doesn’t need to prove her innocence to you,” Brian cut him off coldly. 

Then, with a sharp crack, Brian struck and snapped Curtis‘ right hand.
