Chapter 12
Adams was just arriving at his office and he was just getting settled in when a knock came on his door, he heaved a deep
breath before asking the person to come in.
Mike walked in, there was a huge smile on his face as he went to sit in front of Adams. “Done with what you asked me to do.” He placed a huge brown envelope on Adams table and gently pushed it towards him. “And yes, one of the investors called me this morning, he wanted to know when we’ll be launching the new product.”
Adams took the envelope and brought out the paper inside. “And I trust you handled that well.” He replied while taking a look at the paper in his hand.
Mike scoffed softly. “Of course I did, what am I your manager for?” He bragged.
After that, he simply kept on staring at Adams who was pretending not to notice him, but Mike already knows Adams too well and he could tell that he would soon start to get uncomfortable with how he was staring at him and that’s when he’s going to ask the question that’s bugging him.
Adams tried to focus on the document he was going through, but with Mike staring at him like that, it’s impossible to do. He sighed deeply before slamming the document on his table.
“Just spill it already and stop staring at me like that, it’s making me uncomfortable and it’s annoying as well.”
Mike smiled sheepishly, he then adjusted himself on his seat. “You know what I’m going to ask, did you get to see her last night? Tell me what happened? I want to know everything.” Mike urged impatiently.
Adams rolled his eyes at him. “You’re not even a woman yet you act like one and gossip too much.” He scolded.
“This isn’t me gossiping Adams, just fill me in already.”
Adams relaxed into his seat, then he threw his head backwards and groaned loudly.
“Was it that bad?” Mike asked on seeing his reaction.
“Yes it was.” Adams replied as he sat up once more. “I did see her and you should see the look of hate in her eyes when she saw me, she hates me so much and I totally get it, she didn’t even want to speak to me nor give me the chance to say anything, seeing so much hate in her eyes, it broke my heart but I guess that’s what I get for the pain I caused her.”
“Of course that’s what you get.” Mike scoffed. “All her behavior is totally understandable, put yourself in her shoes, you went through all she did and suddenly the person who caused you so much pain shows up in front of you asking for forgiveness, just like that, if you had been her I’m so sure you would have slapped your partner hard, it’s surprising she didn’t hit you because you deserve it!”
Adams glared at Mike, was he trying to comfort him or worsen the situation?
“You don’t have to spell it out like that, I’m already feeling so horrible as it is.“.
Mike sighed, his anger over what happened hasn’t fully subsided and that’s why he never misses the chance to rub everything in Adams face. “What about the child, did you get to see her?”
Adams shook his head. “She didn’t come with her, it’s not proper bringing her along, the crowd there was just too much, even I wouldn’t want that.” He replied, his fatherly instinct kicking in already. “I won’t give up on Alicia Mike, I’ll do everything, no matter how long it takes, I’m willing to keep trying and doing everything to gain Alicia’s forgiveness and that’s why I’m going to need your help.”
Mike furrowed his brow. “With what?” He asked.
“Information about Alicia, I need to know where she stays, the company she works at, her schedule, everything about her.”
“So now you’re planning on stalking her huh.” Mike stated.

“Just do it!” Adams snapped.
Mike raised his hands in surrender. “Fine, if that’s what you want.” He stood up from his seat, winked at Adams before taking
his leave.
Adams shook his head, ever since last night, the thought of seeing Alicia again hasn’t left his head, he can’t wait to see her again, she’s the only thing on his mind each time he wakes up and goes to bed, every single second she’s all he could think of.
His phone suddenly rang, snapping him out of his thoughts, he slowly fetched his phone from his pocket, when he saw that it was his parents who were calling, he contemplated on if he should answer the call or just let it be, but after a little thought, he decides to answer it and hear what they have to say.
“Hello.” He said coldly.
“Adams! Thank God you answered the call.” His mother’s voice boomed from the other end and from the sound of her voice,
he could tell she was excited about something.
“What’s it mother? I’m at work and I’m really busy.” He replied impatiently.
“Oh, that’s true, well the thing is, I want to invite you over for dinner tonight and please do not say no Adams, it’s really important you come over please.” She pleaded desperately.
Adams massaged his temples, he hardly visits his parents but since she said it was important, he figured he should just go, after all it won’t kill him to go see them just this one time after so long.
“Fine mom, I’ll be there when I get off work.” He replied and he clearly heard her sigh deeply.
“Thank you so much son, I’ll be waiting and I’ll also be making your favorite meal, it’s been so long since you came by, you’ve been upset with us for so long and you never tell us the reason for your anger, ever since-”
“Please mom, can we just talk about this when I get there, I’m really busy and I have to go know.” He didn’t even give her the chance to say anything else before hanging up on her.
True to his mother’s words, he’s been mad at them for so long, but right now he’s starting to question that anger because he should be even more mad at himself for failing to protect his wife, if he hadn’t let them treat Alicia the way they did then they wouldn’t have continued with their ill treatment towards her, but no, he was the one who gave his parents that chance so why should he still be this angry at them for so long when in reality, everything that happened is his fault.
He’s to be blamed for it all, not his parents!
