“Nicky, no matter where you are, can you please come see me? I’m sorry. I failed to properly discipline Matt and neglected your health and feelings. Trust me on this–I wasn’t aware of what Gloria and Matt did prior to tonight.
“Let’s talk. No matter how much you push me away, I’ve only ever wanted you. I love you.”
Nicole read everything with a cold gaze. She felt nothing at all. When she was at her lowest, Hayden was out having a great time with Gloria.
Now that she had gotten fed up with everything and left, did Hayden think offering a few meaningless
words was enough to bring her back? Nicole sneered and deleted his messages without a second
thought.
“Be careful, Jeremiah. Don’t let Hayden overwhelm you, and stop coming to see me so often.”
Jeremiah’s gaze was filled with complicated emotions. He pitied Nicole, but he knew her as a strong- minded woman. She would rather suffer from her illness in silence than reveal her weak side to anyone.
Perhaps this was because the only person in the world who cared about her, Shawn, was not around.
Jeremiah’s expression was unreadable. “If you need someone with you, I’m always available.”
Nicole nodded in acknowledgement. After Jeremiah left, she lay back down to continue watching
television.
Coincidentally, the television was playing a scene of a woman crying as she divorced her husband after
being diagnosed with cancer.
The husband and her son were crying like it was the end of the world. They refused to leave the woman’s
side thereafter.
As Nicole watched the show, she felt not a shred of emotion. Even a fake family could appear so moving and cry tears that seemed so real.
If Hayden and Matthew ever found out that she had been diagnosed with an incurable disease, Matthew probably wouldn’t even shed a single tear.
Nicole found it all so ironic. Just like that, she drifted off to sleep, her body weary from sickness.
After some time, the silence of the room was suddenly broken by her ringtone. Nicole opened her eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling. After taking some time to reorient herself, she reached out to pick it up.
The call was from an unknown number. She had never seen it before. Nicole raised an eyebrow and accepted the call
Matthew’s sobs came from the other end of the line ‘Mommy, where are you? Hurry up and come home! Something happened to Daddy!

Nicole’s gaze turned cold. Just hearing his voice was enough to disgust her.
She said coldly, “Stop calling me that. Don’t phone me either. I’m blocking this number.”
Just as she was about to hang up, Matthew cried out, “Daddy got into a car accident!”
Nicole’s heart sank, and her grip on her phone tightened. After a few seconds, she mercilessly hung up
the phone.
So what if Hayden got into an accident? He wasn’t dead yet.
He had Matthew, Olivia, and Gloria by his side. He didn’t need her to take care of him.
Nicole pursed her lips and decided to ignore it. However, her phone suddenly recommended a news
article. Seeing Hayden’s name in the headlines, she opened it after a pause.
The first thing she saw was a picture of a wrecked Cullinan. Hayden was not in the picture, but the
accident looked extremely severe. The article’s tone was solemn.
“Breaking news! The CEO of Spencer Group, Hayden Spencer, is in critical condition after a car accident! The accident has affected the company’s stocks and set off a chain reaction!”
Nicole was stunned. Hayden was in critical condition? Only after reading that sentence did she finally
register that something terrible had happened to Hayden.
She believed that she was going to die from her incurable disease soon. But to her surprise, Hayden might actually die before her.
