Chapter 98
“I’m sorry. I won’t mention it again.” Alexander’s smile reached his eyes. He glanced at his watch and said, “I’m a little hungry. You probably haven’t had dinner, have you?”
“Not yet,” Elena replied with a smile. “I remember that I still owe you two meals. But you seem a little tired
“I’m fine. I still have the strength to have dinner,” Alexander replied right away.
“May I buy you dinner, then, Mr. Golden?” Elena asked.
“It would be my honor,” said Alexander, opening the car door for her.
Soon, the car arrived at a cozy, quaint restaurant. The door opened slowly, and a server ushered them
into a private room.
“What would you like to have, Ms. Miller?” Alexander asked.
Both of them were looking through the menu, and Elena’s finger was hovering above hers. She paused when she glanced at the line that read “honey-roasted carrots,” and a memory suddenly came back to her.
Her mother would always make her a plate of sweet and tender honey-roasted carrots after her dance
practice.
She would say, “Slow down. It’s all yours.”
Elena would ask, “Mom, do I look good when I’m dancing?”
“Of course, Lena is the best girl,” her mother would reply.
Elena couldn’t help but grin at the memory and said softly, “I’ll have some honey-roasted carrots.”
Then, she looked up at Alexander and said with a smile, “You can decide on the rest, Mr. Golden.”
Alexander accepted it without hesitation and ordered their food.
Elena noticed that he had ordered food that would be easier to digest. He hadn’t ordered anything spicy
that could upset the stomach.
It seemed that he still remembered that she had a bad stomach. That made Elena’s gaze soften.
After the server took their orders, he poured them a glass of water and left quietly.
“Did you take care of everything you had to while you were abroad?” Elena asked.
Alexander picked up his glass, masking the ruthless gleam in his eyes.
“I rescued the person I wanted to save,” said Alexander.
But Yvonne had been severely injured. They had already successfully rescued her a few days ago, but she
had been in critical condition at that time. They had had no choice but to take her to a local hospital.
However, the facilities at the hospital were too poor. After Yvonne’s condition had stabilized and she had
rested for a few days, Alexander had brought her back so that she could receive better treatment.
Yvonne had been unconscious most of the time during that period.
“You went abroad to rescue someone?” Elena was surprised. “Is that person alright now?”
Alexander sighed and said, “She’s still in the hospital. She’s a good friend of my mother’s and…”
She was also the one who could most likely help Elena’s leg heal completely. But with Yvonne’s condition
at that moment, she would definitely still need to recuperate for some time.
- Elena nodded and said, “Feel free to tell me if you need my help.”
“I will,” Alexander replied with a smile.
Since he had already saved the person he wanted to rescue, he probably wouldn’t be in danger again.
Elena finally felt relieved. She started thinking about the project she had just taken over that day, so she
was rather distracted while she was talking to Alexander.
“Ms. Miller, I’ll be very sad if you do this,” Alexander said helplessly.
