Chapter 97

As soon as Justin left, Nadine took a photo of her medical report and sent it to Elena. She knew Elena had blocked her number, so she used her other number to send the text.

“I’m pregnant, Elena. I really want to share this news with you,” she texted.

Elena should be able to figure out whose child she was carrying.

Elena might be dying soon, but the thought of making her suffer and feel despair once again before she

died just filled Nadine with exhilaration.

However, Nadine had no idea that Elena had already changed her number, so she didn’t see the text at all.

Elena poured all of her energy into work once she joined Miller Group. Still, she couldn’t help but think of

Alexander from time to time when she got a break.

A week had passed, and she wondered how he was doing.

Night had fallen, and Elena took the elevator to the parking lot after she finished going through the last document. Unexpectedly, she saw a black car parked next to hers, and a man was leaning against the

door.

The dim lights bathed him in a hazy glow. His sharp features and tall figure took Elena’s breath away.

It was Alexander.

The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing a hint of his collarbones. His eyes; which were

usually cold, looked exhausted at the moment, but they lit up brightly at the sight of Elena.

She couldn’t help but slow her pace, yet her heart was racing.

“When did you get back?” she asked softly.

“I just landed not too long ago.” Alexander chuckled and continued, “I heard that you were still working at the office, so I wanted to come and see you.”

He paused before he added, “You kept saying that you wanted to keep your distance from me, but… I can’t do it. I’m sorry.”

Elena turned her face, coughing awkwardly a little.

“Well… I was mistaken in the past,” she said.

“What were you mistaken about?” Alexander asked, looking confused.

Elena opened her mouth, but she didn’t know what to say. It was too embarrassing to admit that she had mistaken another man for her fiance.

“It’s nothing.” Elena shook her head with all her might. It was as if she were trying to chase all those embarrassing thoughts out of her mind.

She took a few steps forward, studying Alexander from top to bottom in silence. Fortunately, he didn’t seem to be injured.

Alexander suddenly let out a chuckle. “Don’t worry, Ms. Miller. I’m fine. I might have lost a few strands of hair, but in general, I’m still safe and healthy.”

Elena stopped trying to hide what she was thinking since he had seen through her. She decided to be straightforward and said, “I’m relieved that you’re back safe, Mr. Golden.”

Alexander almost stopped breathing.

Both of them gazed at each other in silence for a while before he said, “You probably won’t insist that we

keep a distance’ anymore from now on, right?”

Elena bit her lips, looking a little troubled. “Mr. Golden, can we not mention those three words anymore?”
