Elena was clearly forcing herself to smile. There was no way Camila wouldn’t be able to tell. 

She said, “Don’t tell my dad or my grandma about this yet.” 

“Alright, I understand…” Camila replied. 

The atmosphere felt a little heavy. Camila took a deep breath, suppressed her emotions, and quickly changed the subject. “By the way, I didn’t expect that you’d been having so much contact with Mr. Golden 

lately.” 

The moment Camila said that, Elena’s hand faltered slightly as she held her cup of tea. 

Then, she said nonchalantly, “It just happened by chance.” 

“By chance? Not necessarily.” Camila rubbed her chin. “Why do I feel like Mr. Golden seems to treat you differently? Lena, could he also like you?” 

Elena said, “Hold on. What do you mean ‘also’?” 

Camila chuckled, “Because I’m starting to suspect that your fiance, Zachary, might like you too. Right…” 

She pulled two tickets out of her bag and waved them in front of Elena. “Look, these are from Zachary. It’s 

for an art exhibition in half a month. Are you going?” 

After a short moment of silence, Elena finally said, “I’ll go.” 

Since he was her fiancé, it was only proper for her to attend his exhibition. Maybe she could even get to 

know him better through it. 

“Then let’s go together.” Camila stuffed the tickets into Elena’s hand. 

Then, she suddenly remembered what she had been talking about earlier. “Wait, we still haven’t finished talking about Alexander.” 

“Don’t make wild guesses.” Elena rubbed her temples. “Doesn’t he already have a girlfriend? How could he 

possibly like me?” 

Camila replied, “That’s true. I think that someone as ruthless as Alexander might actually be really loyal 

when it comes to love!” 

“Ruthless?” Elena looked puzzled. 

“Right, you don’t know yet, do you?” Camila leaned in closer mysteriously, lowering her voice even though there was no one else around. “Henning Group has been in a terrible state lately. They were originally just ordinary competitors of Golden Group, so it wasn’t like they were enemies.” 

Camila continued, “But recently, Mr. Golden went all out against them. Henning Group wasn’t able to withstand it at all. If this keeps.up, bankruptcy is only a matter of time. Their president even went to my

dad for help, but there’s no way my dad would get involved. He didn’t even meet the guy.” 

The Miller family might have some standing among the wealthy, but even they couldn’t afford to go against Golden Group. 

Camila whispered, “Just last night, I even heard my dad sighing to himself at home. He said that Mr. Golden is ruthless, and you really don’t want to cross him.” 

Suddenly, Elena remembered the incident when Alexander had been drugged. Linking that to this recent 

incident, one can make some more guesses. 

“Maybe the other side provoked him first; that might be why he retaliated so harshly,” Elena said softly. 

Camila mused, “That’s possible. But still, Mr. Golden doesn’t seem like the sentimental type.” 

Elena blurted out, “He’s not like that. He’s actually a good person.” 

Camila froze, then gave Elena a meaningful look. “Elena, why are you defending him so much?” 

Elena quickly denied it. “I’m not. I’m just stating facts. Did you forget? I just told you that he’s helped me a lot recently.” 

“Alright, I’ll take your word for it. For now.” Camila shook her head. 

Elena lifted her teacup and took a few sips, hiding the flicker of unease in her eyes. 

That evening, Camila hosted a welcome back gathering for Elena on the rooftop terrace of the luxury hotel. She invited all the friends they used to be close with. 

It was originally just to welcome Elena back to Hupolis. But now, it had another purpose. It was also to celebrate the fact that Elena had finally left her scumbag of an ex behind and was starting a new life.
