“You’re Hayden Spencer’s wife, aren’t you? Something’s happened to him at Ironwood Bar, so you need to come over right now!”
The person then hung up before Nicole could even react.
Nicole stood rooted to the ground on the busy street, nearly bumping into several passersby. She clutched her phone tightly, hesitating on whether she should head over to the bar or not.
It was a strange phone call. But if something had genuinely happened to Hayden, it made sense that they would phone Nicole. After all, Nicole had always been Hayden’s emergency contact on his phone.
Nicole finally hailed a cab, deciding to check the situation out herself first.
Weirdly enough, she had already anticipated all manner of terrible situations Hayden might be in. She’d
even anticipated his life to be in danger.
Yet, Nicole no longer felt any sense of anxiety or worry about him.
She soon arrived at the bar and calmly went upstairs. She then went to the private room Hayden often
booked when he was here.
When she opened the door, she was met with several unfamiliar men. They were all sitting on the couch, drinking and chatting merrily. The sharp scent of alcohol flooded Nicole’s senses.
Nicole’s heart lurched. She scanned her surroundings, unable to find Hayden anywhere.
With a slight nod, she said, “My apologies, I seem to have come to the wrong place.”
Nicole was about to turn and leave when one of the men called out from behind her, “Stand right there!”
Nicole paused and turned around. The man who’d spoken marched over to her and grabbed her by the
wrist before pulling her back into the room.
The man snapped, “Where do you think you are right now? You think a simple sorry is enough to get yourself off the hook?”
Nicole was stunned and instinctively tried to fling the man’s hand away. “What is it you want me to do,
then?
The men snickered darkly amongst themselves.
“Since you’re here, why don’t you have a drink with us first? We’re not letting you off that easily!”
One of the men pushed three glasses of vodka toward Nicole. “Here, we’ll let you leave once you finish
these shots!”
Nicole’s breathing hitched.

Being a brain tumor patient, alcohol was the last thing she could consume. She’d probably die where she stood if she drank the shots these men placed before her.
Nicole had no choice but to use Hayden’s influence.
“I’m sure you all know who Hayden Spencer is. I’m his lawfully–wedded wife.”
Hayden was well known throughout the city. He’d grown famous when he took over Spencer Group, bearing his characteristic good looks.
The men looked at one another before bursting into laughter.
“How brave of you, lying out of your ass like that. You’re so pale and sickly, how could you ever be Hayden Spencer’s wife?”
“Yeah! His wife should be an incredibly beautiful woman, not a frail thing like you. Stop pretending and
drink up! Or we’ll force you to!”
The men’s tones grew harsher by the second.
Nicole’s heart lurched. “You can either let me go, or I’ll call Hayden right now. There will be consequences if you upset him.”
She flung the man’s grip away and took out her phone. But this upset the man greatly. He snatched Nicole’s phone from her and tossed it into a glass of vodka.
The phone screen turned white before it eventually shut down.
The man then took the glass and handed it to Nicole. “Drink it! You can either drink it yourself or have me force it down your throat!”
