Chapter 47

The first thing Nicole did after leaving the house was meet up with Eugene. She quickly explained the

situation to him.

Can you help my friend get his job back at the hospital?”

Eugene was silent for a moment. Shawn has many connections in the medical industry here, so he can definitely help your friend get his job back. What I don’t understand is why you’re not going to Hayden for help when it’s he who was behind this.”

No. I’ll never turn to Hayden for help ever again.Nicole’s heart chilled at the thought, remembering that piece of land.

Hayden was well aware that the land belonged to Nicole’s family. Yet, he’d easily given it away to someone else. It was clear that she couldn’t rely on him for anything else.

What’s more, Hayden had already suspected that there might be something going on between Nicole and Jeremiah. If Nicole went to Hayden for help, she’d just be fueling his suspicions further.

Eugene sighed, seeing how disappointed Nicole was with Hayden. Alright. Your marriage to Hayden

really is such a mess. Might as well end it as early as possible.”

Eugene then rose from his seat. I’ll give your brother a phone call.”

Nicole smiled and nodded. Thank you.”

Shawn had always been one to work quickly. In just two hours, he’d already used his connections to get Jeremiah his old job back at the hospital.

When Anthony heard word of this, he instantly phoned Hayden.

Hayden was in the middle of working when he received the call. His gaze darkened when he heard that

Jeremiah had returned to work.

What’s going on? Didn’t I tell you to fire Jeremiah Petersen?”

Yes, and I did just that. But Jeremiah seems to have someone protecting him. The director from the main hospital came over today with an entourage. When he heard that Jeremiah had been fired, he immediately reappointed Jeremiah. He even said that Jeremiah is a very valuable asset to the hospital.”

Anthony was a little dejected. He said defeatedly, I’m afraid I won’t be able to do anything about Jeremiah anymore.”

Hayden tightened his grip around his phone.

Jeremiah had far more connections than Hayden anticipated. If he could get the main hospital director to come, he clearly had a formidable backer behind him.

But who in the hospital could possibly be more powerful than Hayden himself?

Hayden was very confused. He took out his phone and had his men investigate.

When an assistant of his found out about who had helped Jeremiah, he stammered, Mrs. Spencer is in the hospital right now, iin Dr. Petersen’s office. I’m not sure what they’re discussing.”

Hayden’s gaze immediately grew cold.

Nicole hadn’t tried hiding her affair at all. She’d gone right back to Jeremiah.

Hayden’s assistant then said, I found something else, sir. I’m not sure if you’re interested in knowing, but Dr. Petersen’s been trying to gain access to a drug that treats brain tumors. He’s been wanting to get the

newest batches of drugs to perform clinical trials.”

Hayden narrowed his eyes. Cut off his access. You don’t have to keep quiet about it. Tell Jeremiah that if

he wants it, he’ll need to quit his job at the hospital.”

Hayden then hung up the phone and continued browsing through his documents. However, he couldn’t

seem to focus on them no matter what.

In a fit of rage, he flung his coffee mug to the floor, shattering it into pieces.

Meanwhile, Nicole was still in Jeremiah’s office.

She smiled softly. It’s a good thing you weren’t fired in the end. I’d feel so terrible otherwise.”

It’s alright,Jeremiah said nonchalantly. It’s just a job. I’m not worried about unemployment, given my skills. I’m sure there’s a hospital out there that’ll be glad to hire me.”

Jeremiah then took out a piece of paper from his drawer and handed it to Nicole secretively. Take a look

at this.”

Nicole then flipped the note open to find a drug description written on it. It had a very catchy name.

What is this?she asked,

I got this new drug for you. There are already brain tumor patients who are on it. We’re still not sure if it will stop brain tumors from worsening, but the people who’ve taken it have stopped bleeding from their

noses.”

Jeremiah then gave Nicole a puppyeyed look.

Nicole was surprised to hear this. Her nosebleeds had been far more frequent lately, and she would often experience anemic symptoms. It brought her great distress, to say the least.

If this drug could reduce her side effects, it would decrease her suffering as well.

But…

Nicole smiled. I told you that I’ll be leaving with my brother’s friend the day after tomorrow, so I’m afraid I

won’t be able to try this new drug.”
