Chapter 21
Very soon, the car came to a halt before the entrance of the hotel.
Nicole got out of the car and was about to leave, but then Jeremiah followed her. “By the way, I forgot to tell you that you need to take this medicine twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Don’t take. it on an empty stomach.”
Nodding, Nicole was about to say something when she suddenly sensed a chilly gaze on her back. She had always been sensitive to such feelings, so she immediately turned her head to look.
Not too far away, Hayden was staring at her through the crowd, a frosty look in his eyes.
Nicole’s heart skipped a beat, and she felt a chill run down her spine.
In the next second, Hayden strode toward them. He instantly pulled Nicole closer to him before focusing his gaze on Jeremiah. “Nicky, is he your friend? Why don’t you introduce him?”
There was a trace of wariness and scrutiny in Hayden’s eyes.
As a man himself, Jeremiah acutely sensed the hostility coming from the other man and was well aware of what it meant. Narrowing his eyes, he shot Hayden a challenging look.
Nicole had once told him about her family’s situation in passing. Her husband didn’t love her and even gave her a fake marriage certificate. Not only that, but he had her give birth to their child, all while not actually giving her the real title of Mrs. Spencer.
Knowing that the man before him was Nicole’s husband, Jeremiah had no intention of showing him any friendliness. Before Nicole could say anything, he smiled and said, “I’m Nicole’s friend, Jeremiah Petersen.
When Hayden heard that name, his eyes darkened slightly. “So, it’s you.”
“You know me?” Jeremiah asked.
Hayden scoffed, “Of course not. I don’t pay attention to insignificant folks.”
“You’re right, I’m just an ordinary person, unlike you, Mr. Spencer. You’re a successful businessman and also a wonderful husband at home. You can’t bear having your wife suffer and take such good care of her that you would let her enjoy staying at a luxury hotel alone.”
Even a fool would be able to tell he was being sarcastic and mocking.
Hayden’s expression turned cold. Just as he was about to retort, Nicole cut him off in an indifferent tone.” I’m exhausted and have no energy to listen to you two argue.”
With that, she turned to Jeremiah and spoke in a noticeably gentler tone. “Thank you for making the trip.
I’m leaving now.”
The icy look never left Hayden’s face, and when he heard her words, the emotions raging in his eyes

deepened.
Once Nicole had gone upstairs, Jeremiah also got ready to depart.

Suddenly, Hayden said, “Keep your distance from my wife. My family isn’t something a random nobody can destroy at will.”
Jeremiah paused in his tracks, then turned to smile at him. “Is that a warning?”
“No, it’s a threat.”
Not bothering to spare Jeremiah another glance, Hayden spun around and left.
Knitting his brows, Jeremiah couldn’t hold back any longer. “Nicole is a good woman! If you still have
even the slightest bit of conscience left in you, then please treat her well. If you continue with what you’re
doing, you’ll end up losing her!”
That was about as close to the truth as he could say without outright spilling everything.
However, to Hayden, those words sounded nothing less than a challenge a rival issued before a fight.
Curling his lips, he shot Jeremiah a sideways glance. “You’re more than welcome to try, see if Nicole would really leave me. She loves me more than anyone.”
Subsequently, he left without another backward glance.
Jeremiah watched the vehicle speed off and sneered, “Being overconfident isn’t a good thing, Hayden. It serves you right to lose your wife!”
Hayden stepped on the accelerator, and with a loud roar, his car lunged forward and zoomed off, leaving a loud rumbling in its wake.
He sped home as quickly as he could, yet the frustration bubbling in his chest refused to abate.
He genuinely hadn’t expected Nicole to go behind his back and get involved with other men. An inexplicable sense of danger rose in him, making him feel threatened.
Taking out his phone, he ordered, “Look into a man called Jeremiah Petersen.”
After hanging up, he entered the house, only to discover someone sitting on the living room couch. His
brows immediately furrowed.
