Chapter 56
Caroline was mortified by my curt dismissal.
The nerve of that woman!*
Hearing a noise in the hallway, Caroline quickly put her phone down and stepped aside.
Jaxson and Cynthia entered the office.
He glanced up, his brow furrowing slightly.“Have you been discharged?”
“Yes, the doctor said I’m fine, just need to rest for a few days.”
Caroline approached him, noticing he was looking at his phone.
She quickly changed the subject.
“It’s been a while since we last saw you, Jaxson. Let’s have lunch together with Collin at noon?”
He glanced at a company group chat, ignoring the call log, and nodded.“Okay.”
Caroline was ecstatic.
Meanwhile, I hung up and went to meet Reynald at the restaurant.
He was already there, and I hurried over.“Sorry for keeping you waiting.”
“Just a few minutes, no big deal,” Reynald set down his cup and sent the recovered surveillance footage to my phone.
“Luckily, whoever deleted it wasn’t a professional, otherwise, it would have taken much longer!”
I reviewed the footage and looked up.“Thank you.”
“By the way, how much did you pay for your coat? I’ll reimburse you.”
I felt embarrassed about Jaxson losing the coat I’d lent him.
Reynald seemed to have anticipated my question, raising an eyebrow slightly.
“You don’t need to compensate, it’s just clothing. I originally thought you wouldn’t call. Helping you also fulfilled James’s instructions.”
I smiled.“Once I officially transfer, I will go visit him.”
Reynald questioned, “Transfer?”
Before I could answer, a familiar voice cut through the air.
“Colin, slow down-”
My expression froze.
