Chapter 21 – The Aftermath 

The policemen barged into the house immediately before Lily could say another word. Immediately she saw them she let out a shrill scream and pointed at me. 

“That’s the monster who did this to them!” she cried. 

gasped weakly in Damon’s arms and lifted a bloody hand toward the policemen. 

‘Help, I was attacked,” I cried. 

The policemen ignored Lily’s hysterical cries as they helped me into the emergency van along with what was left of Lily’s mother. 

got to the hospital with Damon beside me and I was admitted immediately. 

The police were already there to take my statement. 

What happened?” they asked me. 

started crying and hyperventilating, “They broke in… armed men… twenty…” I made sure my 

vords sounded incoherent. 

Damon took over, “She’s traumatized, officer, she’s been through this sort of thing before. I thin someone has a vendetta against The Maple Group because she lost her parents this same way.” 

The officer nodded and took notes then he adjusted his glasses. 

Did you see their faces?” he asked. 

shook my head, “They all had masks on.” 

Do you know why your cousin is convinced you’re responsible for the attack?” he asked. 

started to cry again, “I don’t blame her, when these sort of things happen you look for who to lame. It was the same with me.” 

Alright, Ms. Maple, I wish you safe recovery,” the officer said and left. 

When Damon was sure there was no one lurking outside the door he turned to me. 

How are you feeling?” he asked with a worried expression on his face. 

smirked, “Don’t tell me you’re actually worried about me.’ 

But his face looked serious and he frowned, “Tell me, Kira,” he insisted. 

let out a sigh, “I’m fine.” 

‘You’re not,” he said, “I know what it meant seeing the people who ruined me after ten years. Now I imagine the horror of having to watch the same scene that happened to you happen all over again.” 

I shrugged, “It’s not the same, Lily wasn’t brutally raped by numerous guys who laughed and mocked her when she cried. Lily didn’t lose her womb without her consent.” 

The tears threatened to spill down my cheeks but I held it back. Now wasn’t the time to start crying when I still had other plans. 

“If I had left their case to a judge they’d all get away with murder. They did what they did to me without having to think twice. They could have just killed my parents mercifully and let me go 

Chapter 20 – Sweet Revenge

“Oh Kira,” Damon sighed. 

Before I knew it his arms wrapped around me. I tried to resist but I found myself leaning into his warm embrace and delicious scenting masculine perfume. 

The tears started rolling down my cheeks before I could stop it and my shoulders quivered. 

‘This is all my fault!” I cried. 

Damon rubbed circles on my back as he held me, shaking his head and whispering, “You’re not it fault, Kira.” 

But I pulled away from him. I stared at him with teary eyes and my voice broke. 

I loved Donald, I let him into my home. If I had listened to my dad when he said Donald wasn’t ight for me they wouldn’t be dead,” I cried. 

saw a tear roll down Damon’s cheek even though he was trying desperately to hide it. sighed, “Yeah, my sob story is traumatizing enough. I failed my parents.” 

Those were the exact words my mother told me when she fell to her death ten years ago. She aid, ‘I’m sorry I failed you, son, I let this monster into our lives and now he’s destroyed us orgive me’ then she died,” Damon said. 

stared at Damon now with a newfound feeling blossoming in my chest. I had no idea our auma was so similar. 

‘m sorry, I mumbled. 

le shook his head, “That’s the problem! You don’t have to be sorry for the shit people do! You on’t get to be responsible for the vile and wicked decisions people make when you show them indness. You don’t get to change who you are because the world is evil. You are responsible for our actions alone and anyone who does evil should bear the consequences.” 

My mother was a very good and loving woman. She loved Lawal with all her heart and handed im her family multi-billion-dollar business. He had a choice to love me mom the same way she >ved him but he chose to betray her and lead her to her death. My mom didn’t fail me, my father : responsible for his actions alone!” 

stared at Damon but he wasn’t looking at me. His eyes held a faraway look almost like he’d een transported back in time. 

ears were rolling down his cheeks but he hardly seemed to notice them as he continued peaking. 

You are a very good, sweet, and kind woman, Kira, and any man would be lucky to have you. Whether Donald was right for you or not is not your fault. You poured love into him, he should ave reciprocated but he chose to betray you in the worst way possible. And now I don’t blame ou for wanting your revenge in blood. Hell, I’d torture the motherfucker myself!” 

At that moment I don’t know what came over me but as I stared at him, I dragged him close and sealed the distance between us with a kiss.
