Chapter 13 – Missing Kira 

I stood outside with Lily who held my hands, tears in her eyes. She had called me immediately. Her father was arrested and I arrived at the police station immediately. 

“Calm down, love, I’ve been able to get your father out on bail, we just have to wait for him to come out,” I said to her. 

‘But what if they come for us next,” she whispered in a scared tone. 

hugged her, “I’m not going to let that happen.” 

The policemen arrived and Henry stepped out with them. 

‘Daddy!” Lily cried as she hugged him.

Mr. Reeds, we’ve done what you asked for,” one of the policemen said. 

handed him an envelope, “Here’s what my father promised you.” 

It’s not looking good, Mr. Reeds, there are three men and evidence tying your father-in-law to the crime,” the second policeman said. 

Then I trust you to handle it properly. But only if you want to remain in my father’s good graces,

The policemen exchanged glances and then nodded immediately.

The drive back home was quiet. I kept glancing at my phone hoping my PI would send a nessage to tell me what Kira was doing in London but nothing came in.

Henry sighed, “I was almost taking control of it but then the policemen arrived. I think it would >e wise if you come up as a potential investor and they’d give in and hand it to Lily.”

All I needed was an avenue to channel money from Maple Group into my company and boost it up so I can take care of the bankruptcy and make my father proud. 

‘I guess we can do that but I hope the board will be willing to listen. It seems everything we’ve done these past days keeps backfiring” I said.

Lily smiled, “At least we have your project that’s supposed to launch in a week and Kira invested millions of dollars in it.” 

I smiled, this was the secret project I was working on. It was going to boost my company once it’s launched but the money I’d get from merging with Maple Group was nothing compared to the millions of dollars Kira invested in the project. 

“I know but we still have to take control of Maple Group so we’d be unstoppable and crush Kira. I wonder what she’s up to,” I mused. 

Lily rubbed my knuckles, “Don’t think too much my love. Start eating.” 

I stared at the food before me and I frowned, the food looked different from my usual lunch. I bit into it and I spat out immediately. 

‘What nonsense is this?” I yelled in anger. 

The maid arrived immediately, trembling slightly, “I’m so sorry, Sir.” 

‘This isn’t how my lunch is supposed to taste. Who made this meal?” I demanded. 

‘I did, Sir,” she answered, lowering her eyes. 

frowned, “This tastes like garbage. What happened? Did your cooking skills suddenly disappear >vernight?” 

‘I’m not the one who usually prepares your lunch, sir, it’s your wife, Kira,” she answered meekly. 

The fork dropped from my hand as I stared at her, my face twisted in anger. 

Kira made all my meals? Then what is your work here? Why were you hired?!” I thundered. 

I clear the dishes, sir. My mistress hired me because I had to take care of my sick child. She nsisted on taking care of all your meals and coffee,” the maid answered. 

felt something prick my conscience, it felt like guilt but it disappeared immediately. 

You’re fired!” I yelled and stormed off.
