Chapter 8 Media Circus 

Donald’s Pov 

That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept staring at my phone, hoping my PI would call me and say he had an update on Kira. 

Without Kira, everything I’ve been building for years will be lost. If I can’t claim the Maple Empire, how do I save my company? 

paced around on the balcony as I stared out at the garden. How had I been so oblivious to all her plans and even signed the document that ruined everything? 

‘Aren’t you going to come to bed?” Lily’s soft voice sounded behind me.

I don’t feel sleepy, love,” I said.

.ily shrugged, “I love my cousin, Donnie, but I’m just happy I have you all to myself. Does this nake me a bad person?”

Once I find her, I’ll deal with her.” Then come join me in bed so we can talk about our wedding plans. I love hearing all the rrangements you’ve made,” Lily smiled.

The following morning I woke up to numerous missed calls and messages.

I sighed and turned off the television. That’s when I saw a call from my assistant. 

I picked up the call immediately, “What now, Cara?” 

“Mr. Reeds, you have to come to the office now!” she said in a scared voice. 

I let out a sigh and hung up. Lily was still sleeping and I didn’t want to disturb her. I got dressed 

and left for the office. 

When I arrived at my office there were a lot of media and paparazzi outside. 

I immediately followed a secret entrance and entered the elevator. It came to a stop on the last

Immediately I entered, all my workers stared at me. The office was dead silent as they all stared like they had something to say. 

“Go back to work!” I barked. 

They all shuffled around and left. My assistant found me immediately. 

“Sir, he’s around,” she said, her voice quivering. 

| exhaled sharply as I entered the boardroom only to see my father standing in front of the boardroom while the other board members stared at him. 

‘Father,” I said. 

He regarded me with a disgusted look, his face twisting in anger. 

You’re finally here!” he snapped, throwing the newspaper at me. 

You’re everywhere, you’re famous for your lies and deceit!” he yelled, “How do you expect this company to survive with you in charge?” 

Those allegations aren’t true, Father,” I said. 

Then your wife should be with you to debunk the rumors but where is she, huh?” he asked, rows twitching. 

The assistant board chairman stood up and cleared his throat. 

This seems to be a family affair, let’s get out of your hair, we can continue the meeting omorrow,” the man said. 

No!” my father thundered, “There’s no need for that. With immediate effect, Donald has been emoved from the CEO position.” 

My eyes widened in surprise, “You can’t do that, Father!” 

I just did!” he snapped. 

The board members all scrambled around as they grabbed their effects and left the room. It was ust me and my father now. 

How could you humiliate me like this before the board?” I snapped at him, “This is my ompany! You said so yourself when you made me the CEO.” 

You embarrassed me and our entire family, Donald!” he snapped, “This is a subsidiary of the nain family company and you’re ruining it! Your company is bankrupt, and your accounts aren’t n order. What do you have to show for now after five years of building this company?” 

I am working on something, Dad, and I can’t do that if I’m not the CEO!” 

You were working on stealing Kira Maple’s company and now that’s backfired and it’s affecting our family company” he hissed. 

It’s not backfired, just slightly delayed,” I stated. 

My father scoffed, “The truth is all over the media, son. It’s only a matter of time before the police verify the information and you’ll be arrested. Everything you’ve worked for will be gone.” ‘You can’t let that happen, Dad! I didn’t do anything. All Kira was supposed to do was remain docile until I claimed the company. Now the company won’t proceed until they’ve seen her and she’s signed off on it again.”

My father patted my shoulders, “Son, I thought you had learned something from me but it’s obvious your brain is so empty, and now I need to get you out of the hole you’ve dug for yourself. 

“Just keep the police off my back, I’ll find Kira,” I said to him. 

My father sighed, “There’s a family reunion in three days. I hope to see you there with your new lady.” 

“I’ll be there,” I affirmed. 

He left and I collapsed into my chair just as my phone rang. It was my private investigator. 

“Please tell me you have good news, Jake,” I said to him. 

“Not exactly. I don’t have Kira’s exact location but I’m positive she’s in London,” he said. 

I frowned, “What’s she doing in London?” 

“I don’t know yet but I’ll call you when I have more details,” he said and hung up. 

I dialed her number again and it went straight to voicemail. 

Where are you, Kira? And what are you doing in London?
