 Caring So Much About Him

Richard was thrown for a loop. “Why would you want to move somewhere else? This is the place, Ms. Ashford. The location is perfect, the amenities are top-notch, and the size is ideal.”

He hurriedly added, “Besides, we’ve been after that spot forever, so I already told them yes on your behalf. If we back out now, we’re going to piss off Mr. Yarwood.”

Rosalie rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. “Fine. When is the meeting?”

Richard replied, “They said it’s completely up to you, Ms. Ashford.”

His expression turned solemn. “Before you go, there is one more thing I need to let you know, Ms.

Ashford.

“I looked into Tabitha’s account and found a suspicious transfer of 500,000 dollars. It came from a virtual card one day before the fire. She was probably bought out.”

Rosalie’s gaze hardened in a flash. Was it Tabitha who locked her in the office after the fire broke out?

Richard continued, “The forensic report shows that Tabitha took a heavy blow to the back of the head before she died. Plus, the fire was triggered by her electric car parked downstairs, and she was right there when it exploded.”

Rosalie’s brows drew together. The fire started after the car blew up in the underground garage, and the flames just spread upward from there.

That ruled out Tabitha as the person who shut her in the office. In that case, who was behind it?

Rosalie couldn’t wrap her head around it, and it left her feeling restless. After Richard left, she glanced at

the time, and her heart skipped a beat.

It was almost dinnertime. She started freaking out at the idea of facing Julian.

But she got up right away and went to start cooking in the kitchen. She even went all out and made it

extra fancy.

The food was ready quickly, and it smelled amazing. But Rosalie had no appetite. She randomly took a few bites, then grabbed her bag and headed out.

She sent a message to Julian. “Food is on the table. I’m heading over to Mom’s place for a bit.”

He swiftly replied, “Got it. Drive safe.”

Reading that reply, Rosalie felt even worse. She drove out of the complex but didn’t head straight back to the Ashford residence. Instead, she just pulled over to the curb.

It didn’t take long for his figure to appear. He wore a plain black T-shirt and shorts, jogging at a steady pace back toward the complex.

Every step he took was solid and powerful, exuding an untamed, masculine air. But in the end, she still drove back to the Ashford residence.

Abigail was eating when she saw Rosalie come in. She immediately greeted Rosalie warmly. “You’re back, Rosa. You’ve got to try this. The chef made your favorite meatloaf today.”

“I’ve eaten,” Rosalie responded absentmindedly before heading upstairs.

Frowning, Abigail set down her fork and knife. She hurried after Rosalie and asked gently, “What’s wrong? You seem really out of it. Is this about Mr. Yarwood? What went down between you and him last night?”

Rosalie covered her ears. “Can you please not talk about him, Mom?”

Abigail was stunned. Then, her face fell. “Did he do something to you?”

Rosalie paused for a moment before opening up, “No. I did something that let Julian down, Mom. I don’t know how to face him.”

Abigail stared at Rosalie in disbelief, her mind racing with possibilities.

Rosalie saw the look on Abigail’s face and knew Abigail had the wrong idea. She quickly explained, ” You’ve got it all wrong. Nothing happened between me and Mr. Yarwood. It’s about something else.”

Feeling relieved, Abigail sat down next to Rosalie with a helpless look. “Didn’t you say you would never fall for him? Why are you so hung up on him now?”

Rosalie replied dejectedly, “It’s not that I care about him. I made a promise that I wouldn’t cheat on him while we’re legally married. But now, I’m drowning in guilt here.”

Abigail sighed. “Did you just come back to avoid him?”
