Chapter 86 Only Charles and Rosalie Were in the Room
Coincidentally, Abigail had also been invited to the charity banquet.
That night, Rosalie walked into the banquet hall arm-in-arm with Abigail. Right away, they walked into a
buzz of conversation all about Charles.
Someone started, “Can you believe Mr. Yarwood showed up without his wife again? After that whirlwind marriage, he has never once brought his wife out in public. What’s the big secret?”
Another guest chimed in, “He’s not hiding anything. I heard the whole thing is just for show to shut his family up about marriage. He doesn’t actually care.”
One of them echoed, “Exactly. I heard she hasn’t even set foot in the Yarwood residence. Maybe the marriage is just a contract. Rumor has it that the Yarwood family wanted her to give them a legitimate
heir in three years, or she’s out.”
Hearing that, Rosalie couldn’t help but lean toward Abigail and ask under her breath, “I heard Mr. Yarwood has an older brother, Mom. Why is everyone talking about him?”
Abigail lowered her voice, shaking her head in disapproval. How could Rosalie not know this?
She started filling Rosalie in on everything she had heard about the Yarwood family. “The oldest son of the Yarwood family had an accident years ago, and it left him in a wheelchair. With his legs gone, he’s hopeless to give the family an heir.
“That left the Yarwood family banking everything on Charles. I heard he fought with his family for years to avoid marrying someone from their circle. Out of nowhere, he shocked everyone with a quickie wedding.”
She sighed, her tone tinged with a bit of emotion. “They say she’s just a college student with zero connections. Who knows if she just got lucky or pulled some tricks?
“But if she manages to give the Yarwood family an heir, she’s set to become the lady of the Yarwood family.”
Rosalie nodded in realization, but she couldn’t care less about any of it. The moment she found out that Charles was in the VIP room, she let go of Abigail’s arm. “I need to use the restroom, Mom.”
Abigail cautioned Rosalie with a worried look, “Don’t go running around. There are too many people here.”
Rosalie responded, “Got it.”
She turned and headed straight for the VIP room. But when she got to the door, she wavered.
Just thinking about Charles’ intimidating presence made her tense up. As she was hesitating, a waiter walked over with a tray. “Would you like some champagne, miss?”
Rosalie grabbed a glass and threw it back, hoping to calm her jitters. But the champagne tasted strangely bitter, unlike the typical ones.

But she didn’t think much of it. She put the glass down, took a deep breath, and opened the door. The waiter walked off with the half-finished champagne glass toward a dimly lit corner in the banquet hall.
A slender figure stood quietly in the shadow.
The waiter muttered, “She drank it.”
The woman smirked with satisfaction as she pulled out a small gold bar from her purse and placed it lightly on his tray. “Well done. As of now, we have never met. Understood?”
The waiter nodded and left. A moment later, Lucian emerged from the shadows nearby.
Camelia stepped out of the shadows, slipping her arm through his. But she kept her eyes on the door to the VIP room. “I saw Rosalie just now, Lucian. I think she went into Mr. Yarwood’s room.”
Lucian scrunched up his brows right away. “Vertex Tech is hanging by a thread. I’m guessing she wants Mr. Yarwood to extend the project timeline.”
He grunted. “Does she really think Mr. Yarwood has time for her?”
Camelia put on a worried look and asked, “Do you think we should go in and help Rosalie? I’m afraid she can’t manage on her own.”
Lucian remarked, “Forget it. Mr. Yarwood’s temper is unpredictable. The last thing he wants is women fawning over him.”
As the words left his mouth, the door to the room opened before their eyes.
A group of men in suits filed out one after another, exchanging pleasantries as they left. Rosalie was the only one who didn’t come out.
Camelia covered her mouth and gasped. “They’ve all left. It’s just Mr. Yarwood and Rosalie in the room.” Lucian knitted his brows together as he kept his eyes on the door intently. He thought to himself, “You’d better get out of there right now, Rosalie. You can’t afford to mess with people like Charles.”
