Chapter 85 A Plea to Charles

Richard sighed in resignation. “That office building belongs to the Yarwood family, Ms. Ashford. I pulled some strings and found out that the place is owned by the Yarwood family’s younger son.

“They just fixed it up recently, planning to turn it into a high-end restaurant. All I did was ask, and the person in charge shot me down right away. They told me that Mr. Yarwood’s decision is final, and they

aren’t going to rent it.”

Rosalie rubbed her temples. “Are there other options?”

He hesitated before throwing the idea out there. “Right now, I can’t find another place that is such a good fit. How about you try asking Mr. Yarwood again?

“I heard Vista Furnishings is now under Mr. Yarwood, too. We’re partners with them, and our company is

in a tough spot right now. If you reached out, he might-”

She cut him off without a second thought, “He won’t. It’s times like these when we really can’t go knocking on his door for favors.”

Leaning back on the couch, Rosalie gazed out into the dark night, her eyes distant and cold. “The only

way is if I can give him more than he had made off a restaurant.”

With the idea in mind, Rosalie hurried into the study and started working on a proposal right away.

As the night wore on, the door suddenly clicked open. She knew right away who it was without checking.

Only Julian knew the code to her apartment. He had dropped by for a meal, but when he found her tied up

with work in her study, his brows knitted together.

He headed to the kitchen. A little while later, he came out with two plates of pasta and knocked at the

study door. “Let’s eat.”

Rosalie grunted in response and carried her laptop out. She kept her eyes glued to the screen while slurping her pasta.

Julian finally had it. He reached over and closed her laptop with a sharp snap.

Rosalie finally came back to her senses, staring up at him in bewilderment.

His tone was firm. “Put that away and eat first.”

She let out a worried sigh and finally turned her focus to her food. She couldn’t help but complain, “I need to secure the contract for Vertex Tech’s new office building. Unfortunately, the spot I had my eyes on turns out to be Yarwood Group’s property, and they won’t lease it out.”

Julian raised an eyebrow. Meanwhile, Rosalie got more and more worked up as she spoke until she set down her fork. “It’s the building beside Harborview Fire Department. I heard Mr. Yarwood wants to turn it

into a restaurant. Isn’t that nuts?

“That place isn’t even busy like downtown. Firefighters have their own cafeteria, and the residential area

is so far away.

“Who’s going to go all the way out there just to eat? If he were to rent it out to me, the rent alone would beat whatever he would make from a restaurant.”

The more she looked into it, the more convinced she was that her proposal would work. “If I spelled out all the advantages and drawbacks to him, do you think he would rent it out to me?”

He stopped eating for a second and met her gaze without saying a word.

The intensity of Julian’s gaze was getting to Rosalie. She grinned self-deprecatingly. “Forget it. Why am I telling you this? You probably don’t get it anyway.”

She listlessly poked at the pasta on her plate. “I’ll talk to Ursie later. Maybe she can help me sort it out.”

Julian downed the last bite of his pasta as his throat bobbed. “Give it a shot. If this pans out, a smart guy like Mr. Yarwood will make the right call.”

Rosalie was taken aback for a moment, then nodded firmly. Her eyes lit with resolve as she scarfed down the rest of her pasta before heading back to the study.

The next day, Richard called. “This is our chance, Ms. Ashford. I just found out that Mr. Yarwood is attending a charity banquet tonight. How’s the ankle and the burn? Are you feeling better? We could show up and try our luck.”

Rosalie replied, “Let’s go. We’ve got to take our chance.”
