Chapter 79 He Was Nothing Like Lucian

Chapter 79 He Was Nothing Like Lucian

The design of the bracelet looked strikingly similar to the work of Herman Frazier, the world-renowned jewelry designer. His style was instantly recognizable.

But Herman was famously eccentric and never accepted private commissions. Every piece of his went straight to auction, and the prices were astronomical.

Rosalie remembered seeing a similar bracelet at an auction once. She had fallen in love with it on sight, but the bidding soared until it hit 50 million dollars, and she had no choice but to let it go.

She turned the bracelet over in her hand, studying it with suspicion. There was no maker’s mark anywhere.

It made sense to her. Julian was a firefighter, and there was no way someone in his line of work could

have access to something so rare and expensive.

Rosalie lifted her gaze to him, the corner of her lips curving into a faint, helpless smile. “This knockoff is pretty convincing-you chose well.”

Julian’s brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. “Knockoff?”

Rosalie’s eyes curved with amusement, a faint dimple showing on her face. “Yes, but I think it’s beautiful.”

She slipped the bracelet onto her wrist and gave it a little shake in his direction.

She had to admit, even if it was a knockoff, the bracelet suited her hand perfectly and made her skin look even more glowing and delicate.

Rosalie met his eyes again and said with sincerity, “Thank you. I really do like this birthday gift.”

Julian said nothing more. He only gave her a long, unreadable look before moving to the cot across the

room.

Unlike Lucian, he didn’t immediately pull out his phone to play games. He barely touched his phone at all.

He really was nothing like Lucian, who had spent his nights at her bedside, buried in whatever game kept

him distracted.

Rosalie turned onto her side, her mood unexpectedly light, and soon drifted into sleep.

When Rosalie woke the next morning, the sky outside was just beginning to brighten. A freshly made bowl of oatmeal sat on the nightstand beside her bed.

Across the room in the small rest area, Julian sat in front of his laptop, his fingers moving quietly over the keyboard. The morning light traced the sharp lines of his profile, his expression focused, restrained, almost austere.

As soon as she sat up, he snapped the laptop shut and stood.

“You’re awake?” he asked.

“Go wash up first and then eat breakfast.”

Rosalie glanced at her phone. It was only 6:15 am. A strange feeling brushed against her chest, leaving

her unsettled.

That feeling only grew stronger at 7:30 am, when Lucian’s message appeared on her screen. “I ordered

you breakfast. Remember to eat.”

She thought back to the times she had spent with Lucian. Breakfast with him had never been before 8:00

When Lucian was sick and she stayed by his side, he would sleep in until he woke up on his own. When

she was the one sick, he still wouldn’t stir until the doctor came for rounds.

Only then would he scramble out to buy breakfast, usually returning well past 8:00 am. By then, she had

already been hungry for hours, forcing herself to endure it just to fit around his schedule.

Now, her stomach felt warm from the perfectly prepared bowl of oatmeal.

When Rosalie glanced at the takeout breakfast that had just been delivered, she didn’t hesitate. She

tossed the entire thing straight into the trash.

Julian didn’t say a word. He simply stood, tied the trash bag with a firm knot, and carried it out. When he

came back, he replaced it with a fresh one as if nothing had happened.

Lucian’s so-called gesture of kindness had been discarded without the slightest change in Julian’s

expression.

The doctor arrived shortly after.

Rosalie’s throat had improved, but after checking her injuries, the doctor advised her to stay one more night for observation.

“You’ve still got a minor burn on your leg that needs redressing, and the sprain in your ankle shouldn’t be taken lightly,” he reminded before leaving.

Around noon, Abigail arrived right on time, carrying a food container. The moment she opened the door, she saw Julian carrying Rosalie out of the bathroom.

His arms were taut with muscle as he held her steady, and her arm had naturally hooked around his shoulder.

The moment Rosalie saw Abigail, her face flushed crimson. She quickly pulled her arm back and stammered, “M-Mom! Don’t get the wrong idea! I twisted my ankle and can’t walk on my own, so he was just helping me!”

Abigail’s lips curled into a smile as she quickly set the food container down. She said, “No worries. I didn’t see a thing. You two carry on.”

With that, she really did turn to leave, even closing the door behind her as if to give them privacy.

Rosalie was speechless. She let out a sigh as Julian gently placed her back on the bed.

The food Abigail brought turned out to be a meal for two. They had just started eating when another

knock came at the door.
