Chapter 70 Provocation

Chapter 70 Provocation

1/2

Back at her apartment building, Rosalie and Julian walked side by side into the elevator. When the elevator dinged at her floor, Rosalie stepped out first but paused at the doorway and looked back at him.

“By the way, don’t forget. You’re coming with me to meet my mother tomorrow afternoon,” she reminded

him.

Julian looked at her, his gaze deep and unreadable. “Okay.”

Rosalie pressed her lips together. The almost-spoken “good night” lingered on her lips, but she swallowed

it back.

Lucian had once told her that the letters in “good night” were a hidden shorthand for “I love you”. Each

time she said it to him, it was a confession-one she only ever said to him.

In the end, she let the words go and simply said, “Get some rest.”

Just as she finished speaking, Julian suddenly murmured from inside the elevator, “Good night.”

Rosalie froze for a moment and looked up. Julian’s expression remained unchanged, clearly unaware of

the meaning behind his words.

She awkwardly clutched her bag, nodded slightly, and quickly walked into her apartment. The elevator doors slowly closed behind her.

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Julian’s lips. He thought Rosalie was absolutely adorable. One simple “good night” could make her blush so fiercely.

The next day, Rosalie noticed something was wrong the moment she walked into the office. The red light on her safe’s keypad was flashing rapidly, signaling that the system had been automatically locked due to multiple incorrect entries.

Her project briefcase, containing all of Vertex Tech’s core data, was inside.

“Richard! Who came into my office last night?” she demanded.

Richard rushed in, and when he saw the safe, his face went pale. “Ms. Ashford, everyone was at the dinner last night, and I specifically locked the door before I left.”

“Check the surveillance footage.”

“The surveillance cameras… are down. The engineering team said the wiring on this floor malfunctioned last night, and they’re fixing it now,” Richard said, on the verge of tears.

Rosalie sneered.

“What a coincidence!” she thought.

Then, Richard suddenly remembered something. “Oh! Ms. Ashford, during last night’s dinner, two project team members, Heather and Tabitha, left early. One said her child had a fever, and the other claimed a

stomachache.”

Rosalie narrowed her eyes. “Check the surveillance footage outside Cinder Grill. I want to see if they really went home or went somewhere else.”

Just as she was irritably focusing on work, someone knocked at the office door. Thinking it was Richard, she didn’t even look up and said, “Come in.”

The door opened, but it wasn’t Richard who stepped inside.

Lucian and Camelia appeared instead. Lucian carried a delicate two-tiered cake, while Camelia held a gift box, smiling warmly as she approached.

“Rosalie, happy birthday!” Camelia said, handing over the box.

“This is the fountain pen Lucian and I specially secured for you at Aurora Auction House. It was a favorite of the former Queen of Yenilia. I hope every contract you sign in the future brings you complete success.

As she extended the box, her fingers lifted slightly, and a large blue diamond ring caught the light, refracting a dazzling glow. Rosalie’s brows furrowed.

Noticing Rosalie’s gaze, Camelia quickly withdrew her hand. “This…”

She explained awkwardly, “Lucian had this custom-made for me. I’ve heard natural blue diamonds are scarce, and he spent years finding them…”

Mid-sentence, she seemed to remember something and nervously looked at Rosalie. “Rosalie, you don’t

mind, do you?”
