Chapter 53 Why Are You So Worried About Me
Julian stared at Rosalie and quietly asked, “Why are you so worried about me?”
His presence was so overwhelming that she froze for a few seconds before finding her voice again. “You looked after me in the hospital until I was discharged. Now that you’re hurt, of course, I should help you with your wound. Isn’t that only fair?”
Julian studied her for a long moment, then let out a short, mocking laugh and released her hand. A shiver
of unease ran through Rosalie, and she quickly gathered the medicine bottles, ready to leave.
Just as she turned, his deep voice came through from behind. “I want barbecued ribs tomorrow.”
Rosalie stopped mid-step, forced a smile, and answered, “Alright, I’ll make extra. Do you want anything
else?”
But as soon as the words left her lips, she met the fierce, hungry look in his eyes. A look that all but said
he wanted her instead.
Her heart slipped, and she muttered a quick, “Then, I’ll be going now,” before slipping away in haste. When the door closed, Julian glanced at the cooling ointment on his arm, and the corner of his mouth lifted
ever so slightly.
The next day, Rosalie never did make him those barbecued ribs. Near the end of her work, Abigail called
to say she should come home for dinner.
It struck her then that she hadn’t been back for nearly two weeks, so she agreed and sent Julian a message. “I have to go home tonight. Don’t stick to eating instant noodles, and order some takeout for
yourself.”
There was no reply. Julian was as cold and aloof as always.
The moment Rosalie stepped into the Ashford residence, she felt the tension in the air. Looking worried, Hilda pulled her aside and whispered, “Mr. and Mrs. Ashford had a fight. Mrs. Ashford cried for a long
time and hasn’t spoken to him these past few days.”
At that, Rosalie frowned. “Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked.
Hilda responded with a sigh. “Mrs. Ashford wouldn’t allow it. She didn’t want to distract you.”
After changing into loungewear, Rosalie went downstairs. In the dining room, the maid had already set
the table.
“You’re back? Come, sit down. Let’s see if tonight’s dishes suit your taste.” Abigail said, smiling gently as though nothing had happened at all.
Rosalie immediately noticed that every dish was mild, just the kind she liked. Not a single one was to William’s much heavier taste.

Unsurprisingly, after only a few bites, he slammed his cutlery down on the table. “What’s with these dishes? They’re awful!”
The chef jumped in fright, but Abigail remained unruffled. She calmly placed a piece of shrimp on
Rosalie’s plate.
“From now on, the menu will follow Rosa’s preferences,” Abigail said. “She’s working hard on projects and building her career. This is when she most needs proper nutrition and a good mood. She’s the future of the Ashfords and the hope of the company, so her health and happiness are more important than
anything.”
Finally, she lifted her gaze to meet William, who was livid. “If you can’t get used to it, then leave.”
Her words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning, and he didn’t dare push further.
Abigail remained composed and continued serving Rosalie more food with elegance. “Eat more. You’ve
grown too thin.”
Rosalie lowered her gaze and ate quietly, though she understood perfectly. Abigail wasn’t being petty- she must have already discovered something.
William had charmed Abigail with honeyed lies for decades, but even he knew better than to test the limits of her wrath. But now, faced with her genuine anger, he wouldn’t risk an open confrontation.
Trying to reclaim the upper hand, William suddenly spoke again, his tone heavy with pride. “By the way. Rosalie, I heard you won the Vista Furnishings bid. I knew giving Vertex Tech to you was the right choice! Just half a month in and you’ve delivered such impressive results! You truly are my daughter!”
Hearing that, Rosalie’s lips curved faintly, but her smile was cold.
A bid wasn’t a deal done. Vertex Tech was about to crash and burn, and yet, he still had the nerve to be
smug about it.
Setting down her cutlery, Rosalie evenly replied, “You’re exaggerating, Dad. We might not even survive
this. It’s too early to celebrate.”
The pride on William’s face froze instantly, giving way to shame and anger. “You’re still upset about me letting Camelia take your place? She’s an MIT graduate and has won international awards! We’re lucky to have her at the Stellar Group. Why can’t you see that?”
He continued, glaring at her. “If you had a better education or even half her experience, I wouldn’t have had to give her your position”
