Chapter 48 My Concern for You Was Never Fake

Rosalie let out a startled cry and instinctively wrapped her arms across her chest as she spun around.

The sight of her pale and terrified face seared itself into Julian’s eyes before he froze. Then, he quickly

turned away and shut the door behind him.

Outside, he leaned against the wall. His throat tightened as he swallowed hard.

Closing his eyes, Julian couldn’t stop replaying that fleeting image in his head.

When Rosalie was done changing, Julian came back inside. His expression was calm as he tidied up the

fruit basket and suitcase.

Seeing him act so composed, her wildly beating heart began to settle. Surely… He hadn’t seen anything,

right?

Then, Julian lifted everything with both hands, leaving only her phone behind. “Wait for me at the hospital

entrance,” he said.

Rosalie nodded quickly and walked out. But as soon as she reached the entrance, she came face-to-face

with a figure she knew all too well.

Lucian hadn’t expected to see her either. A look of surprise flickered in his eyes.

Rosalie kept her face blank. Then, she turned her head and pretended not to notice him.

“Rosalie,” he called, stepping closer, “What are you doing here?”

“It’s none of your business,” she coldly said.

Those words were like a spark to dry tinder, and it lit up a shadow of fire in Lucian’s gaze. “Stop acting like a second chance means nothing between us. As long as I’m alive, everything about you is my

concern. Don’t ever say otherwise again.”

Rosalie almost laughed at the absurdity of his words. Her lips curved in a mocking smile.

Just as she was about to speak, Lucian suddenly seized her wrist and yanked her phone from her hand. His fingers tapped a string of numbers with practiced ease, and the screen unlocked instantly.

“The password’s still my birthday,” he said, smirking. “So, blocking me was just your way of getting my attention? Well, it worked.”

“Give it back!” Rosalie snapped, lunging for her phone.

Lucian sidestepped effortlessly. He scrolled through her contacts to pull his number and WhatsApp back from the blacklist before locking the screen and shoving the phone into her palm.

“Don’t ever use such childish tricks again,” he said, his voice dropping. “You know as well as I do that we can’t return things to the way they used to be, so don’t ever block me again.”

Rosalie boiled with rage. Right in front of him, she opened her settings and changed the lockscreen code.

She had always relied on facial recognition and forgotten she’d left a password tied to him. Watching her, Lucian gave a low laugh.

“I came to get some medicine for Camelia,” he suddenly said. “The two of you have bad stomachs, and both of your prescriptions come from the same doctor. Even if I’m not by your side anymore, remember to avoid spicy food and take your medicine on time.”

At that moment, Rosalie suddenly recalled. Ever since Camelia had returned to the Midelnia, there had

been two sets of medicine every time Lucian returned from the hospital.

She had always focused on drinking her own portion, never questioning where the other one went. Now

she realized that the concern she thought was hers alone had been divided all along.

Rosalie glared at him. “Save your hypocritical concern and go worry about your precious Camelia instead!

she roared.

“My concern for you was never fake,” Lucian shot back, frowning. “But if you insist on seeing it that way,

then fine, I might as well tell you why I chose Camelia.”

Her fingers clenched tight around her phone. She hated to admit it, but she wanted to know where she

had lost.

But now, it didn’t matter anymore. From the corner of Rosalie’s eyes, she caught sight of a white Bentley

rolling to a stop at the hospital’s entrance.

The car’s window lowered to reveal Julian’s dark, steady gaze fixed on her.

Rosalie looked back at Lucian coldly. “Your choice is none of my concern. Not anymore.” She turned to leave, but he gripped her wrist hard enough to hurt.

“What’s wrong? Are you feeling guilty?” His voice was dangerously low, and his expression was twisted with menace. “You already know, don’t you?”
